Bowling, Pool, and Poker are on ESPN...and I don't consider them sports...well, bowling might be...we'll see how I do in the class next semester.

I am not nor ever was an athlete, but cheering was fun and taught me team junk and whatnot. Was I a student - athlete? Who cares! I am now 31 and not much of a student anymore. I just want to know what all those who are dissing the cheerleaders played and if they played sports who did they date?

Now that's the type of perspective inquiring minds want to know.

The real issue here is the safety of our female cheerleaders...anybody who's been to a basketball game has no doubt noticed the growing number of times our cheerleaders have nearly been dropped. Poor training, poor skills, whatever the case may be, somebody is going to get killed soon.

It was nice to see the young lady was OK, but I wasn't sure I wanted to cheer her for cheering on the backboard, or SLAP her for being such a dope.

in one of the news articles it detailed how her coach was concerned about her moving around, and potentially exacerbating a spinal injury-
Graeff urged Yamaoka to stay still, fearing her cheer could hurt her more. But Graeff saw that the medical crews at Yamaoka's side didn't seem to have much of a problem with the impromptu show of spirit, so Graeff let it go.
someone getting a reprimand over that one- I completely restrain my patients until after definitive xray, MRI or CT diagnosis.

Actually Medic--this is YOUR chance. Someone will "break a leg" or something. I think there was a girl that had a pretty nasty arm break a few years ago in "tryouts." This would be a great Ambulance Chasing scenerio for the Law School folks.

You live a sad life if the only way to pad your post total is bumping a cheerleading thread.

it was in ref to a previous post about open tryouts- assuming the squad was filled and ready to go for the year- but there is little on the official site about them.

Yes. Her name is Stefanie Cobb, graduated from UVA four years ago. I met her about two weeks ago. She seems to be doing pretty good with them from what I've heard. I haven't seen the team though.

I am a current cheerleader, so I figured that one of us should post on here since everyone's talking about us. Our coach's name is Stefanie Copp and she graduated from UVA 2 years ago. She cheered there, so she has a good insight on what collegiate cheerleading should look like. Hopefully everyone's noticed that we are trying to rebuild our team so that we can be on the same level as big college cheerleading programs. I feel that we look ten times better than we did last year. Last year was a rough year with a coach change in the middle of the year, so I hope no one formulates opinions based solely on what they saw last year. We are actually conditioning as a team, as well as on our own, and that is making us stronger on the sidelines. We are not going to compete this year, because of it being a "rebuilding" year, and UVA cheerleaders, what our coach once was, do not compete. A lot of us are on Competition Teams outside of Liberty though. So, juggling 2 teams, school, work-outs, and jobs is pretty rough and I hope people will give us some respect. Unfortunately, basketball season will not be exciting because of new NCAA safety rules on what we are allowed to do. It's not because we're a bad team, it's NCAA. Another thing I'd like to address that thankfully no one has complained about on here, is about our uniforms. I get a lot of crap from people because of how short are skirts are. I have even had a R.A try to give me reps for my skirt. The school chooses those uniforms and approves them. We do not choose them, so we are not "whores", as I have overheard people calling us. If you are a supporter of our team, thank you so much. We really appreciate you guys!

You guys are awesome. I haven't been able to notice you too much because I sit on the 50 and you guys can't go to the 50.

As for the uniforms, we have the most conservative uniforms of any college I know. I'm not complaining.
