James Madison captured the doubles point. Lady Flames Erica Fredstrom (So., Grand Forks, S.D.) and Ekaterina Kuznetsova won the #2 doubles match, 8-5. However, James Madison squeaked out an 9-8 victory at #1 doubles and won the point with a default in the #3 doubles match to take the point.

The teams then split the singles matches as the Lady Flames actually won three matches, but with two wins and a default, the Lady Dukes were able to take the team victory.

I'm assuming the defaults were due to the fact that, by that point, the match was well in hand?

Not sure why the defaults were there...maybe an injured player or something...I dunno...but they are doing better than last year, or at least thats what the coach tells me.
By FYI
#10253
Defaults were because Livia Branco was injured and was held out. Ale knew they would win easily and decided to rest her. There is no one else. Katy Gooden came to school this fall with a rotar cuff injury, so the girls go with six. Its all they have.

thanks FYI: I assumed since we swept the actual matches played that Coach wasn't worried about 2 defaults, but was curious due to the fact that this isn't the first time we've given up points this way.

I didn't realize we only had 6. Thats a shame- hopefully will be fully staffed next year.

The ladies are hanging tough though and .500 can probably be considered a success considering the coaching scenario going on over there. I personally think the acting Coach is doing a good job, at least w/ the ladies but I also feel the program is obviously NOT getting the support needed from the top. Hopefully new AD Barber will address that issue.

The Esbenshade-Hershey courts are hardcourts do basically what they did was put down fresh asphalt, and then gave it all a fresh coat of paint. (youd be hard pressed to notice its asphalt once that new coat of paint went down). I will take some pics down there while Im at lunch.

Nice first round win for the ladies... they are getting some Sasser Cup points we weren't expecting...Ale has done a great job with the girls despite all the turmoil the team has gone through... it's a shame they didn't do just a little better in the regular season, she could have been coach of the year.
