how come you guys can't play while you're standing around, waiting for the half to end? You missed a score and the players running to the locker room.

The band did a great job last night, especially considering the conditions. They will be playing to the student side for the next game, and provided it doesn't rain, will have all of the electronic instruments (keyboard, bass, guitar) to add to the sound, as well as amplified solos. They also didn't bring out the drum racks for Swing, Swing, Swing, which adds a lot to that part of the show. I enjoy the level of energy that this year's show has, compared to last year's.

Things were kinda limited because the board and markers got soaking wet so we couldn't write much out. Hopefully if the weather is good next weekend we will have more stands tunes

I liked the show a lot. The band looks just slightly smaller than last year...but it was much louder...seems like the brass line was bigger (love brass and percussion...go Drum Corps).

Anyway, loved the Boston Bolero, and part of that show, was it from Swing, Swing, Swing...it sounded like the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corp version of it from way back in the day...I think 97...(I tried out for the Bluecoats in '98 or something like that, that's the only reason I know).

I LOVED the Trombones.

I would rather you wear uniforms than the jeans and shirt and black shoes look. Are you keeping that for the whole year, or will there be uniforms?

Overall, loved the band. I used to be in the band, so I know about the 3rd quarter break...and you can't really play when you're getting ready for the show...I wish that the PA announcer would have access to the Fan the Flames MP3, and that way, if we score during one of those times, it should be played over the PA...tell someone...that's what needs to happen.

I would, but I email Jeff Barber and Bob Good, and all kinds of LU people about my ideas all the time...I think they might get sick of me emailing...although they always reply, impressive.

The look we had last night was because Dr Kerr didn't want to have to deal with drycleaning almost 170 uniforms this early in the season. Hopefully if the weather is nicer next weekend we will be in our uniforms

And yes we do have Swing Swing Swing in the show this year. We will hopefully have the finale drilled for next week so we can have it when we play to the student side. I heard the finale from outside the band room today and it is gonna be seriously hot stuff

Also, I will talk to Dr Kerr about hooking the football operations people with the MP3 of the fight song for the 2nd and 3rd quarters

PAmedic, is that where you were sitting. I was just in front of you a little. I think you can see a tiny bit of my head in a plastic poncho right at the front edge, near the 45. Not that anyone cares...just FYI.

Yes, I was in Section 5 as well...in the silver reserved seats...row W. I think that's my head towards the left/front of the picture, in front of the guy in the yellow rain jacket. I have a clear poncho hood on, and it looks like I'm looking to the right...I don't know why.

I didn't know where you were sitting, or I could of came up and saw you.

Liberty University Band Members:

With great sadness, I am writing to inform you that Thomas “TC” Charlton died Sunday afternoon, September 3, 2006. Many of us knew him quite well as a member of our band since the Fall 2004 semester, and for our new members, you may remember that he was the young man who visited us just a few days ago in a wheel chair.

I spoke with TC’s mother this evening. She expressed the love that TC had for the members of the Liberty University Band. She and her family have not yet made plans for the funeral. As soon as I know, I will share the date and time of the funeral. Dr. Super has also been in contact with TC’s mother. We know that she would appreciate a musical percussion tribute at the funeral or grave site. We will also be in contact with you as we are able to obtain more details.

Yours,

Dr. Stephen Kerr

Director of Bands

Well once again the rain foils the marching band as heavy rain on Monday and at the start of practice today means we didn't get the whole show learned and will be doing the fight song tomorrow at the end of the show. Thank goodness we have 3 weeks after tomorrow before our next performance...

Well teh band is back to work again but many members are fighting various illness, and one of our members has left LU so now we are looking for someone who can play a mellophone. Otherwise things are continuing to progress (although we had indoor rehearsal today due to the wacky weather)

BJ, what details can you give me on the competition Saturday? I know it starts at 12, how many bands are there and what's the cost? My parents are wanting to come up for it.

1. Call Dr Kerr. He should have some idea as to what the cost is for admission into the USSBA competition
2. I think by my last count (the page is wacking out so I can't get a confirmation of this at the moment) 14 or 15 bands covering all divisions that are being contested are going to be there. We will be the last band to perform at around 4:20

Last year, I believe admission was $10/person, so it will probably be about the same. That is for whether you show up before the competition starts, or just in time to see the last few bands perform. We will have 16 bands competing Saturday, and we follow them with an exhibition performance. The National Anthem is scheduled for 11:55 am, and awards should wrap up by 4:30. Most of the bands are also competing in the night show in Salem, so the competition won't end much, if any, later than 4:30. Local bands performing include LCA and EC Glass. The full list of bands can be found at:

Well Homecoming is this weekend and the band is having a BBQ fellowship with the alumni in town immediately after rehearsal Friday evening. It will be held on the practice field/lot. We set our parade formation today and this year we are going 5 across instead of the traditional 4.

Hey we're lookin forward to it too. Dr Kerr tells us that Dr Tully has done a great job building your marching band program up over the last 4-5 years. He tells us your only a little smaller than us this year (120 members)
