Tee Jay was awesome tonight as well as BJ. We made a statement tonight with that performance and it is on to Wintrhop.

Tonight was the first time in a long time that the atmosphere at Vines felt like an actual college basketball game. It was loud and rowdy just like I like it.

Forgive me if this was stated in the game thread. I was watching the game on TV and didn't bother to read any of it.

The crowd LOOKED great! It SOUNDED rather pathetic. Nothing against SJ and the boys. You did your part. Everyone else was acting like they were being asked to cheer for Hillary Clinton. Maybe I was just expecting a little more because I went to the ODU/George Mason game today. The atmosphere was great!

The guys played really well. I am already looking forward to Winthrop. Mrs. 01 has already been informed of the TV schedule for Tuesday- no Biggest Loser in this house! well, maybe I will end up in the back room with the little TV.

I though the same thing about the crowd. Big but rather subdued. I can't understand why with such a great performance from our team agains the best team in the conference. A group of 10 guys in red shirts can only do so much.

Hey guys,

I'm writing an article on tonight's game for LibertyU.com, and I need a quote. I liked what DeathCab4LU said. Can I quote you on that, DeathCab? I'll just need you first name, at least. That'd be great if I could. Thanks!

In the second half, Jerry, Jr. and his family joined the LUantics on the first row, so there were least 15 of them standing and cheering, though Bryson was noticably absent.

I don't want to get into the crowd noise stuff and whatever, that's besides that point. The point is we looked BIG TIME tonight, we absolutely locked down Smithson and Garland and that was difference. On the other side we were very balanced on offense, we were very efficient. Heck, BJ had 13 points, 9 boards, and 8 assists. What an effort. Match that with TeeJay's 16, i believe and 5 assists. When our guards play like that you can't beat us. We were very versatile. Effective inside, good outside, good on penetration and just fantastic on defense. And once again we had the best coach on the floor. Coach McKay gives us a chance every night and tonight to go on top of it we played up to our potentional. If we can put some games like that together, we are downright scary. And whether or not the crowd makes noise or not no one, I mean no one wants to play us in the Vines with 7,000 people there, because our guys get up for that. I don't care about the noise, people let's go one step at a time. There were 7,000 people there!!!!!!! That's huge. There are CUSA schools that don't get that many people. Great night to be associated with Liberty basketball

Winthrop wishes they had half of the students at games that we've got coming this year. We've had over 3000 students two or three times this semester alone. Were we weak tonight? Yes. Most of the main people there that lead things are still sick, yet we were at the game early and stood for the entire game and cheered the most that we could. To say our student section is weak is completely asinine when, aside from the Corps when they actually show up, is the best student section the Big South has. We're ten times better than anyone in football, and we're almost to the point where we're the best in the Big South in basketball on any given night. How often has Winthrop's student section been able to get into a coach's head to the point where he turns around and yells at them during the game, without having to cuss or shout profanities? How often has Winthrop's student section forced bad shots at the end of the shot clock? We're not drunk of our butts shouting, "F--- Winthrop, you suck." We're the most creative group in the Big South and, given a good showing the rest of this year, will be the best student section in the conference next year, hands down. I've been to every gym (besides CSU) and every football stadium in the Big South and the only place that can even compare with our kids is VMI. Yes, that sounds cocky. However, when someone who has no basis of anything to speak of starts tearing down my group, I'm going to stick up for them. Winthrop isn't even in the top 3 in terms of student sections.

Yup, us guys in front can only do so much.

Plus half of us were sick, so not as loud tonight.

And a lot of people were there to see Kenny, not basketball.

since i haven't been to Winthrop, i'm not going to say how there students sound. but i'd be willing to bet that "SJ and his 10 closest friends" can do a heck of a lot more to get in the opposing teams/coaches head than winthrop ever dreamed of. I guess we'll see tuesday how your team feels when they come to the vines and get rattled.

This is what Horrez posted on the Winthrop board:
Oh, and didn't I hear they had a pretty big crowd at their game tonight? Maybe some of them will stay home on Tuesday.
If Super John and his "10 closest friends" have their way, don't count on it, Horrez.

Hey if Winthrop can be sick and use that as an excuse, so can we. Look at what we had: Sj right in the middle of the bug, TTL near the end of it, TBGBGBG still getting hit hard by it, I just started my adventure last night. So we were sick. Also, alot of times it is just us 20 guys (20, not 10) and again were in a process. Football came together at the end where alot of people were organized and yelling. Basketball is going to take time. We do, however, do a good job at what we do.

Scenarios for HPU:

Liberty and HPU win: Three-way tie for second place (Liberty, Winthrop, High Point)
Liberty win, HPU loss: Two-way tie for second (Liberty and Winthrop)
Liberty loss, HPU win: Liberty in 4th place
Liberty Loss, HPU loss: Two-way tie for third (Liberty and High Point)

the family came up tonight to look at a town home and go to dinner. i hate i missed the game. sounds like the crowd was BIG.

with a couple thousand or so more fans than usual at the game, i'm surprised to hear goeagles talk crap about the students. i guess goeagles will have to wait and see if the eagles will be able to handle "sj and his 10 closest friends" and a "pathetic" student section later this week.

Uh, I've had water thrown on me, spit upon by a player, gum thrown at me, coaches give me a finger, it was awhile ago but I'm pretty sure LU's student section isn't breaking any new ground. I watched the game and it did seem pretty quiet for a good crowd. You're just not going to be able to match a championship caliber team that had a whole school and community supporting them. I agree that WU's support has been less than optimal this year but to say that you guys are breaking new ground is asinine.

Not that I discourage it at all, I think good student sections at every school and upping the intensity is great. I think what SJ and friends do is great, it only adds to the atmosphere and makes the conference better. Don't take is as a slight, but as encouragement, but it's not groundbreaking stuff and not the best in the conference. WU at homecoming, WU in the tourney are easily better crowds. But it's something to shoot for.

I am not sure what you are getting at, Winthrop dude...

We aren't trying to hurt the other team's fans.

We get into players and coaches heads.

And we do a darn good job. ESPN agrees. Called us the "most rabid fans" in the BSC.
