I've NEVER had trouble driving in snow, and generally love doing so, but I got halfway down Campbell Avenue, about spun out while just driving straight, and decided to say screw it, I'm coming home. If I get an absence, I get an absence, but I just didn't feel comfortable driving for the first time in my life.

I got in about 640 before it even started sticking to the parking lots...but just walked out to the front of CN...and it looks like a mess out there now. Drive safely for anyone coming in today.

When I woke up at 6:45 I looked outside and the roads had a little bit on them but nothing much. I left the house about 7:20 and the road was completely white. I just slid too much to b comfortable. I slid more today than I did on the Ice Day back on the first day of exams. I was fine driving through that and was comfortable with it, but today I just had a bad feeling so I came home.

Pretty much everything but LU is either delayed or closed...hope our profs will be lenient today. I should be fine if I want to go in around 10, but we'll see what its like then.

I went and e-mailed my professors and as I was doing that one was canceling class already.

Splash page just said we're closed.

I know they do all that they can do, but I really wish they'd announce things before two minutes before classes start. Most people who have 7:40's leave by 7:20 and it really isn't the best thing to have all of those kids drive to school and then have to drive back. I'm not really complaining as much as suggesting.

I saw the announcement on the splash page this morning. Well, as bad as it was for all the folks that did not find out until they got to class (I talked to a few folk as I was walking to the bus stop who were headed the other way), Im sure something good could be made of this whole thing.

Don't get me started about waiting until 737 to make the announcement. Thus...the thread title has been changed.

Check in here if you had to go to work today. Present!

The roads were surprisingly slippery.

Present, although I'm in Richmond, it started snowing here around 8 and is just now starting to stick.

I was turning onto Candler's Mountain Rd. when I was notified that I didn't have to be at work today. Pfffft.

Yeah, I'm really surprised there wasn't even a delay this morning. I drove into one snow bank close to home and then almost died when I was almost to work. It is quite slick, and my bald tires don't help, either.

Check--I left the house at 7:00 (after checking the TV to see if we were open or closed); I was on campus and parked by 7:20 and in the classroom getting my PowerPoint up and running and my DVD clip set up by 7:30. I took roll at 7:40 and then a fellow faculty member came by and told me the school just announced it was closed. But I'm home now kicking back with some coffee and a sausage & egg sandwich.

I got down Campbell Ave and my traction control was going crazy trying to actually get some traction and I said screw it and turned around. I'd already e-mailed all of my professors by the time school closed.

I can't believe we haven't had more of our northern contingent laughing at this thread yet. I'm in Houston and I think it is hysterical.

LUConn even said the roads were slippery. What happened was the snow wasn't sticking to the road because it was right around freezing. Then the temperature dipped a couple degrees and all of the snow that had melted froze into ice. That's what it was. Driving in snow is a cake walk, it's just common sense. Driving in ice is a completely different animal.

I literally live on the beach. This is the most snow I've ever seen. And yes, I was out throwing snowballs like I was 5.
