Adams to push NCAA for playoffs
UGA president, who also chairs key NCAA panel, calls chances 'at least 50-50'

By MARK BRADLEY
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 01/08/08

University of Georgia President Michael Adams says it's time for the NCAA to replace the confusing and controversial Bowl Championship Series with an eight-team college football playoff — and he's in position to help make it happen.

Adams told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution he has written a letter to NCAA president Myles Brand that advocates a seven-game, single-elimination tournament run by the NCAA, which currently has no say in the BCS process. The Fiesta, Orange, Rose and Sugar bowls would become quarterfinal games in Adams' tournament.

More power to him. But I seriously doubt those other presidents will fall in line for awhile.

If anyone would push hard for this playoff, tho, it would be the SEC.

They prove, every time they get the chance, that they dominate.

So they would love to have a playoff where every year they have the same shot at winning it all.

If the Big 10 & Pac 10 would open their eyes & see that nobody gives a crap about who plays in the Rose Bowl except them, maybe this thing could get moving.

This happens every year and generally it's from a coach or President who thinks they belonged in the game and they will give it some effort for a month or so then it'll slowly fade away until next year when someone else gets screwed

Thats the thing. The UGA president doesn't feel like they got screwed. He feels the college football fans got screwed. This is the first time I've heard a major president voice concern for the fans & not his school.

Yeah but deep down you know what it is making him do this...he feels they got screwed...now that is a smart PR ploy to try and make it seem like it's the fans that's he's concerned with but let's be honest would he have done any of this if it was GT that got screwed...I'm pretty sure that he'd just sit back and watch

question: If they come up with a playoff someday (because Hell has frozen over), what becomes of FCS? Is it still DI? Do they change the names of it? This is important information.

Hey, regardless of his motivation it has to start somewhere. If he can make it happen, good for him. Eventually someone will bring enough noise from the right direction to make something happen. Maybe it'll be him.

I say screw the BigTen and Pac-10 if they want to keep their precious Rose Bowl. The ACC, SEC, Big 12 and Big East are all open to it according to the article. The article also mentioned that Florida's prez (his school won the thing last year), was also in favor of a playoff but didn't send a letter b/c of a couple other presidents in the SEC.

I agree I'm glad he's doing it although if he's doing it out of emotion (which is the only thing I can see) then it'll wear off just like it always does every other year...but maybe this guy's determined and it'll happen...I'd give anything for it to
