They had this in Houston this past weekend. You would actually be surprised how good it looked even from fairly close up. The technology is changing at a rapid rate after two decades of slow progress.

Ha! No way, man. Anything bigger than 42 inches in my tiny house would be overkill.

I am terribly picky, though. The "El Scorcho Approved" list is short, but firm:

Samsung LN-T4081F
Samsung LN-T4071F
Sony KDL-40XBR4
Toshiba 42LX177

I'm saving my loose change.

I toured with the Dew Action Sports tour this summer and worked for Panasonic. I worked a lot in the 103" plasma tv tent showing that baby off to everyone. It was sick how clear it was close up (it was 1080p).

Why is that picture so terrible? Is it like a spy photo or something?

I think it was taken with a Nikon lens.

He should have opted for the autofocus.

CES is always a fun time...along with that other convention that piggybacks with it

This seems to come up every year on FlameFans.

I don't know what that means.

I was watching G4 the other day, who seems to attend every single one of these major conferences throughout the year and they had a commercial for the Adult Industry Expo which is apparently coming up soon. I think that's what he's talking about.

Oh I knew what he was talking about. I just think it's funny that every year when CES comes up, someone has to mention the "other" expo, too.

They always kind of go hand in hand. CES always gives you good reading and dreaming!

The next evolution is the OLEDs from Sony. They don't last very long right now, but I'm sure they'll fix that sometime in the short future.

I was honestly waiting to see if someone else would bring this up before me. I agree, true story.

They're also going to have to figure out how to make them of any appreciable size that don't cost a bajillion dollars. OLED is cool, but the large displays aren't there yet.

Contrast ratio is important, but not what I'm looking at. The 71 series is 120Hz with wide-range fluorescent backlighting. The 81 series has LED backlighting. Thanks for the heads up, though.
