If you were a child of the 1980s, or are just a fan of very-late-night cable television, then you've most likely seen Michael Knight (played by a pre-Baywatch David Hasselhoff) and his chatty supercar sidekick, KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand), do battle with bad guys on the small-screen action-adventure show Knight Rider.

At first glance, KITT appeared to be a sporty 1982 Pontiac Trans Am, fresh off the assembly line. But thanks to a little Hollywood razzle-dazzle, the car transformed into a virtually indestructible machine—possessed with advanced artificial intelligence that allowed it to accept voice control commands, interact with "The Hoff" and make decisions on its own. In fact, the car's AI was so advanced that KITT formed a kind of personality, which is what has endeared the "car" to millions of auto geeks in a way the Batmobile never could be. But when the show was shelved in 1986, so was KITT.

I hate to be the party pooper here but that power cannot translate into that acceleration with those tires unless it's some kind of KITT industry super sticky tire. And I see no mention of that.

I pick the new one from a purely looks standpoint but that's it.

This show is going to go over like pickle juice on cake. Sure, a hot car that can talk to you is awesome -- if you still believe it's 1982. In 2008, frappin' minivans can talk to you, start themselves and even parallel park. This whole thing only works if they somehow convince the cast of the 'Sarah Connor Chronicles' to join up and then bring back jumped-up versions of Goliath, KARR and Hasselhoff's evil twin "brother".
Seriously, what's more funnysad? Hasselhoff wearing a white suit and a white man fro while trying to act all evil or Hasselhoff in 2007 still talking into his arm at the drop of a hat?

When the Dukes of Hazzard made their movie, they still used the General Lee. Why couldn't Knight Rider still use the '82 Trans Am that we all know and love?

Using a Mustang in a Knight Rider movie is like using an AMC Pacer in a remake of Herbie The Love Bug.

There was another KITT you guys are forgetting. In the movie Knight Rider 2000, KITT was installed in a '57 Chevy. How do I know? I made my TV Movie debut as a cop in this USA Network late night fixture. I rode with the stunt drivers as a stunt extra. It was one of the coolest couple days of my life. You won't find me in the credits (the extra label in casting) but I'm riding in the front seat of the lead car in all the chase scenes where KITT flies off the wharf into the bay.

Personally I would've preferred KITT In the new Camaro like we saw in Transformers. But that's just me.

A couple years ago, I decided to coin a new slang word. It was a word for an old(er) person who was trying to be cool, and was failing in a pathetically funny way. Something you'd laugh at just because it was so pathetic. The word, of course, was "hasselhoff," as in "That 50 year old in the mosh pit is just so hasselhoff."

It never really caught on, but I still think it's a good use of the word.
