An informal poll of players and coaches revealed that the NCAA's name change for the artist formerly known as I-AA football is still going to take some time to get used to.
"Football Championship Series, is that right?" Coastal Carolina coach David Bennett said.
"FCS? It's Football Championship Series," Liberty's Eddie Pinigis said, before shooting a look at Flames coach Danny Rocco.
"Close," Rocco said.
In November 2006, the NCAA changed the name of the I-AA football subdivision to the Football Championship Subdivision. The former I-A is now called the Football Bowl Subdivision.
But there weren't many people referring to the subdivisions by their new names.
Asked if he had any other offers to coach at schools other than Presbyterian, new Blue Hose coach Bobby Bentley said he had received several offers to be an assistant, including some at the "I-A level."
"FCS," Rocco said. "I've been trying really hard to call it that. Those other guys, though, I still call them I-A."
Said Pinigis: "When I talk to people, I still say I-AA. When you say FCS, nobody really knows what you're talking about."
