im not much for picking up on new shows.....but i spent my sunday afternoon watching about 10 episodes of this on DVR and i just couldn't pull myself away. The fact that i enjoyed it and also a 5 year old and a 2 yr old sat quietly and watched hours of this show, blew my mind. I really believe i have learned a lot and i was just reading about Bear Gyrlls and his faith and what he has overcome in life.........If any of you guys have time, id urge you to check it out on Discovery Channel. Anybody else watched this??

Sunday was the first time I'd watched it too. There are rumors out there that part of it is fake (meaning he has help building rafts, doesn't sleep in the woods, etc) but still, the things that he shows you on how to survive are awesome.

Yep i have read a few confirmations of those rumors due to Discovery demanding it at first, but now they have released a statement that says going forward they will be completly upfront if 100% of what we see isn't real.....but from what i understand it was only a few isolated times during the first few filmings and then once when he had to build the raft to get off a deserted island ( because they wanted to make sure it stayed together considering the large amount of Tiger Sharks just offshore)....

I thought it was pretty obvious that he's getting help. He's always so excited and chipper. If he was starving or had no water, I really think he'd act a lot different. But even if you take that into account, he shows you a lot of interesting/useful things so the show is no less entertaining. The guy drank elephant poo for goodness sake. He could have a butler following him around for all I care. There's another show, "survivorman" and it's the real deal. But it's so freaking boring. The guy is trying not to die as opposed to making a good TV show.

Agree 100% Man v Wild is great TV no matter how it's made. Survivorman is Brutal.

Exactly. One episode I saw he showed how to make a make-shift life jacket with your pants if you have to swim across a long distance. It's more of a "hey, if you get caught in the woods, here's how to not die" show rather than a "look at me, I'm the man" show.

I've only seen one show start to finish (in the Nevada mountains I think). I've seen bits and pieces from others.

Yes he nearly got eaten by those sharks. That was my favorite episode.

I find it amazing how easily he can catch wild game and fish, with basically homemade equipments such as spears, snares and clubs. I loved it when he poisoned the fish in the deserted island episode.

As I said in an earlier thread when this show was brought up, Bear gets all the glory but the guy lugging the camera gets no love.

The cameraman has to go everywhere Bear goes, but he does NOT have to eat the maggots or drink the elephant dung "juice",or his own urine! Still, pretty tough duty on some of those shoots.

I got a kick out of the one in the Australian outback where he drinks his pee, and then later makes a point of demonstrating how the leaves of some native plant are really good for cleaning your teeth. :urinal

My favorite one is where he jumps through the frozen lake to show the proper way to get out. Appearently, the best way to get your body out of the shock of the cold water is to rub snow on it. It's supposed to take away the moisture and helps you warm up quicker.

Great show though. I can't believe we haven't had a Man vs. Wild thread yet.

Uses of pee we have learned from the show:

1. You can drink it
2. You can pee on a shirt and wrap it around your head to keep cool in the desert
3. You can pee in a bottle and keep it close to you for warmth in the cold
4. You can pee on your jellyfish stings to soothe them

I can't believe we just flush this miracle liquid down the toilet.

well it seems like whenever i go to discoery channel nowadays its either this, dirty jobs, or mythbusters. And so far like 5 times this summer theyve had all day marathons of man vs wild. Also, if you have ondemand they usually have a couple episodes on there.

New season on the way....
I am off this week to start filming the rest of Man Vs Wild Season Two. I’m a bit daunted but definitely excited, and the environments are now even more extreme. They include the Sahara, Patagonia, Panama and Siberia...in winter.
