L.V. Catz Preview. This year's roster has some potential draft picks

The Lehigh Valley Catz brain trust has assembled a star-studded roster capable of winning the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League championship.

The downside, however, is the strategy could also result in several empty roster spots.

At least two of those players -- Ryan Page and Ivor Hodgson -- could be drafted this week.

Page, a 6-3 left-hander out of Liberty University, posted a 6-0 record with three shutouts and a 2.20 ERA for the Catz two seasons ago, but missed last season because of an injury.

In college he was 9-2 with a 3.59 ERA last season as a sophomore and 3-3 with a 4.57 ERA and four saves as a junior this year for Liberty.

"Having Ryan back and healthy is exciting he was our No. 1 pitcher and he was a Baseball America top-10 prospect," Yaguez said. "Who knows what the draft holds for Ryan he could very well get picked up in the draft, he's that caliber of a player."

Small world. Rory Faust used to be a stringer for me when I was in Flagstaff. Wow. Seeing that byline was a blast from the past.

So much for Ryan not being a good starter.

3-1 in 5 games, with one complete game. He's got a 1.38 ERA, 38 strikeouts and only two walks. For those scoring at home, that's a 19:1 k:bb ratio. He's averaging almost 8 k's a game.

From the league's All-Star Game where Ryan picked up the victory:
Ryan Page of the host Lehigh Valley Catz was one of the pitchers who dominated. He had one strikeout in a 1-2-3 third.

''Sure, you want to showcase your talent, get your name out there and hopefully, get your foot in the door,'' Page, a righthander from Liberty University and western Pennsylvania said. ''But when you're out there playing, you worry more about the game than who's watching.''
