Red Dog in the house!

Obviously we missed a bunch of opportunities in the 1st Half but I am proud of how hard the kids fought the entire game. Thankfully we don't have to play teams the caliber of WVU the rest of the way.

Woodrum looked great. I still have concerns about our secondary but they looked better than last week. We can lose next week and be typical Liberty, likely a borderline playoff team. Or we can prove that we're a real program capable of not just making playoffs, but making a run in playoffs, by beating Montana. Maybe it's early but I feel like next week could be a game-changer for this team.

anemic run game and awful special teams doomed us

surprised that Abnar was a non-factor

everyone had to play up today for us to have a shot and they didn't

I don't think you can pin too much on the coaching staff today

The result doesn't surprise me. As was said by someone else, next week really is going to be the barometer for us of where we are at going forward this season. A win over the Griz would be a statement win for us at home (and no doubt send the Griz message board into hysterics). A loss doesn't doom us, but does mean we probably have some work yet to do to be one of those top tier FCS squads.

We were just beat by a more talented team, we didn't embarrass ourselves and fought hard the whole game. There were a lot of positives.

1. Woodrum 149+ QB rating
2. Only four penalties
3. Zero turnovers
4. We weren't sacked at all
5. The OL played very good overall
6. DL was pretty good
7, Secondary played much better this week.
8. Good game plan
9. Receivers caught the ball well.
10. Only one fumble and we retained possession.

Overall, not a bad showing. There are a lot of positives to build on. If we play with the same intensity we played with today, I can see us being very solid against Montana.

The kids showed up in force at Whiskey River in Charlotte. My wife & I sat at a table with a really nice WVU couple.

Went to LU press conference and part of WVs. Peterson did not play in the 2nd half. Coach Gill said it was a minor injury, could of played but they decided to keep him out. Happy with the other receivers in the second half. Gill said Lunsford usually makes those kicks, just wasn't his day. Dez said the pitch he dropped was an awkward angle, hit his hands so he should of caught. Said it was a big point in the game. Admitted he needs to do better. Very humble kid. I usually only get to watch games on TV. It was amazingly how big Dez and Woodrum are up close without pads. Woodrum has really bulked up.

Coach Holgerson said WV sacked LU zero time. He pointed out how well LUs receivers did in the second half. Had a lot of praise for Woodrum. Said LU will win a lot of games this year.

We were MUCH more competitive against WVU than a Georgia Southern team that went undefeated in the SBC last year and almost beat NC State and Georgia Tech. I don´t know how much they lost off of that team, but I guess we will find out how good (or bad) they are as the season plays out. If we make a couple of those FGs and don´t hand them a TD with a stupid penalty when we had them stopped for a FG early, it could have been a closer game. Good effort, but the games we need to win start next week against Montana. Can´t wait!

I thought our gameplan was as vanilla as vanilla could get. We were satisfied giving them 7-yards per play and they chewed us up.

If by 'Our' you mean WVU you are correct.
LU's game plan and calling were very solid. Defensively it was 'bend don't break' and it worked fairly well in the 1st half

I thought the game plan was fantastic. The execution just wasn't there consistently enough to hang with a very talented west Virginia team.

WVU averaged 6.3 ypp
LU averaged 6.1 ypp

Both DJ and Petey sat the entire second half. Both could have played, but Gill was thinking about the upcoming games against FCS opponents. Macon did a good job and hopefully Woodrum will have more confidence in Farrow, Shells and Parker now instead of always looking for Petey.

Vanilla was last week. More like double vanilla. We showed more offensive formations in the first 10 minutes of the game that we showed all last week. I am sure it was by design. Coaches did a very good job this week, IMVVVVHO.

This will be the key to our offense this season.

Overall, if we execute next week like we did today, we will lose by at least ten points.

If we convert some of those early scores, we will have a great chance to win.

No one got seriously hurt, the gameplan was good, and we moved the ball all day against a big defense. I think we should have a lot to look forward too. Another missed oppurtunity was the late hit/missed fumble recovery drive. That was heartbreaking.

Fans at the game were very very nice unless they were completely inebriated.

Abner got tagged on a couple of hits. I'm not sure how thrilled he was for that to keep happening

The WVU announcers were praising Coach Gill all over the place. And there was ZERO rain until we walked back to my truck, and even then it was only mildly sprinkling.

I didn't read any other thread sorry if I repeat old info.

Gill should have called timeout at the end of the first, John would have been kicking with the wind had quarter not ended.

Add the nine points of missed field goals and add to that the field position taken away had we kicked off , I believe we would have been right in this.

Love the hawk role tackling by our players. Tackling in open field is so much improved.

Who's Hot : Erwin Desources, Woodrum , O-Line
Who's Not: Lunsford , Petey

Agree with everything except Peterson. He has 12 catches for 147 yards in just 5 quarters of action. I can´t fault him because the coaches took him out for minor injuries against Del St when the game was in hand and WVU, a game which in the bigger scheme of things is less important than the upcoming games against FCS opponents. I really believe his missing the second half against WVU will ultimately work to our benefit. It gave Farrow, Shells and Parker a chance to shine and hopefully Woodrum will have more confidence in them going forward.
