Lady Flames' Wheelock Tabbed Big South Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Liberty midfielder Mandee Wheelock has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for games played October 2-8, as announced today by the league office.

Wheelock (Front Royal, Va.) led the Lady Flames to two wins and into first place in the Big South Conference standing last week with three goals, including two game-winners.

The senior scored Liberty’s first goal in the contest and her first of the week in the Lady Flames’ 3-0 road victory over VMI, last Tuesday. Three days later at Radford, Wheelock netted both Liberty goals as the Lady Flames defeated the Highlanders, 2-1. The Liberty captain’s second goal of the evening came with 1:16 left in the game, breaking a 1-1 tie and propelling the Lady Flames past Radford.

Also, nominated for women’s soccer player of the week for week seven were Jess Smith (Birmingham-Southern), Ashleigh Gunning (Coastal Carolina), Leslie Long (High Point) and Allison Stoltz (Winthrop).

Wheelock and Liberty are in action again in their final home game of the season on Saturday as they host the Birmingham-Southern Panthers in a key conference match-up. Before the game, Wheelock and three other senior members of Lady Flames, who will be playing in their final contests at Liberty Soccer Field, will be honored. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
