I just thought I thread on this little event was a good idea. I'm a fan and this can be a great place to discuss all the triumphs, controversies and quirks as history is made.

I watched the opening ceremonies and thought they were pretty good.
Didn't care for a bunch of kids in hospital beds but loved Mary Poppins saving the day.
Loved the Queen becoming a Bond Girl
LOVED Rowan Atkinson 'playing' Chariots of Fire with the orchestra
Loved Brazil's pants
Liked planting the flags around the hill
Confused why Team USA wore berets and France didn't
Thought the 'Independent Athletes' , all 3 of them were having a blast
Wish Elton John would have done something in the show.
And haapy that all across America, hundreds of people were saying, 'You know honey, I had this class in college, and did you know......'as they filled them in on some fact about Olympics past

That was interesting. Two were homeless, from a now-defunct country, but I didn't get the reason for the other one that was living in Arizona? Maybe Arizona finally succeeded.

The flying dove bike was pretty cool, and the torches rising at the end with the interesting firework pattern outside the stadium was quite a sight. Thankful for high def.

His name is Guor Marial, and the country he'd want to represent, South Sudan, just became a country relatively recently and doesn't have an Olympic body yet. He's a permanent US resident which is why he's training in Arizona.

You know you loved it. I bet you still remember a lot more about the Olympics then you think you did! Plus you had ALL SEMESTER to put it together. Had you not waited till the weekend BEFORE it was due it would have been a lot more enjoyable.
And it got great end of year reviews

Michael Phelps barely made the men's 400 IM final so itll be interesting to see if he can win from lane 8 (which is tough to do)...Ryan Lochte is in Lane 3

Archery is rather boring, but that was one exciting finish. That fat Italian was clutch on that last arrow.

Does anyone here know anything about equestrian? I tuned in during a commercial break, and all this dude was doing was sitting on a horse as it trotted across the dirt. Wasn't jumping over anything, just trotting. What the heck is that and how does one "win" in that?

Actually that's one of the contests. I went to an Equestrian event once and got all the education I need on it. To put it in terms I understand, I was told that there are competitions on different types of 'walking' ie Trot, Canter, High Knee, whatever. And each type of walking has it's own points of emphasis and they are judged accordingly. My only complaint was there were no betting windows!
