I need some recommendations for a new board game, preferably good for 4-6 people. Board game night is starting to die down and we need a new game that had good replay value. There's not really a genre I'm specifically looking for, but I'd look for a strategy game that is a bit deeper than Blokus!

Here's what usually gets played at my house:

Loaded Questions
The Game of Things (very similar)
Apples to Apples - the women like it
Settlers of Catan with multiple exp packs
True Colors - 1989 edition...absolutely an awesome way to make someone cry
Oh crap - Spades for more than 4 people but played individually. There might be other names for this like Up and Down the River?

We have all the generic mainstream games - Monopoly, Risk, Sorry, Life, Clue, Risk & Dutch Blitz. We're just looking for something a little bit different.

I'm personally partial to a game called Agricola, but without playing it I'm afraid to dump $60 on it.

Have you considered Scrabble? LOL jk

The most obvious one missing on here seems to be Stratego. I've never played it, but hear its good.

If you can find it, I would recommend Qwirkle.
Game is good for groups of people.
Easy to learn and play, but challenging enough to keep you entertained.

Stratego is more for kids, and is only 2-player.

Good game ATrain. Except when people cheat and put the bombs all around the flag.

Ticket to Ride is a lot of fun. You would probably have to order it online somewhere, never been able to find it in a store.

One of my favorite games is Carcassonne: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carcassonne_(board_game)

As a youth pastor, I played this game with a diverse demographic from jh students to grandparents. I am sure that some people wouldn't like it, but everyone I have introduced the game to has asked to play again. By the way, there is an iOS version which is one of the best selling games in the APP store.

That game has been on my radar, but I haven't met anyone who's played it. I like how the scoring is set up, and there seems to be a decent but not overbearing amount of strategy in it. Much easier to explain than Agricola. Acquire and Himalaya are two others I'm looking at.

Found it at a Barnes & Noble where they sell board games. They might be stocking up on heavier games for the Christmas Season. T2R is an easy game to teach, although IMO you absolutely need the 1910 expansion to really enjoy the game.

And my roommate walked up to a group of guys playing the game QUELF and invited himself to join. Somehow they convinced him that the L in QUELF is silent. I walked in the door with Carcassonne and he asked me if I've ever played QUEEF. Absolutely lost it

Anyone ever play Mystery of the Abbey?

Take a chance on Pandemic. It takes a few games to get the real hang of it, but it's an excellent game.

Diplomacy, Puerto Rico, Agricola, Dominion, 7 Wonders and Arkham Horror are all good. If you're a Risk fan, try Risk 2210.

Check out Board Game Geek for great reviews.

Also, if you've got a local Barnes & Nobles, check to see if they've opened a game section and then just hunt for coupons.
