Recruit757.com wrote:Sequan Gooding (JR WR/DB 6-0 170) is one of rising stars on the Oscar Smith defense. He’s rock solid in the secondary and he’s a great option for Williamson in the passing game.

Both Gooding and Williamson had the opportunity to visit the University of Maryland on Saturday for the Terps homecoming win against Wake Forest. It was a great day for Maryland football, especially on the field where the Terps wiped out the Deacons, 62-14.

Gooding and Williamson were more than happy to talk about their recent visit, the facilities and the coaching staff at Maryland. It was J.J.’s first visit to a Division I FBS University. “I really enjoyed myself. I couldnt really meet all of the coaches because of the timing (of when) we got there, but I got to meet Coach James Franklin (Assistant Head Coach/Quarterback Coach). He was down to earth coach, he asked me a variety of questions, including how I liked the school,” said Williamson.

Sequan added, “I liked the facilities a lot. I spoke with Coach Franklin for a little bit before we went on the tour. I couldn’t speak with the rest of (the coaches) because they were getting ready for the game. Their weight room is huge!”

Coach Frankin discussed Maryland academics with the two Oscar Smith stars. It’s also a plus that many local players have gone on to Maryland and have done well there. “So many players from there have gone on to be very successful and that’s what I liked the most,” said Gooding.

“Seeing some 757 players made it seem like home. (We saw) Kerry Boykins from Oscar Smith and Trenton Hughes (of Kempsville, Travis Hughes brother),” said Williamson. “It just seemed so surreal because I have so much family in Maryland it would be an ideal situation for me. Overall it was great.”

The offensive schemes were appealing to Sequan. Of course, it didn’t hurt that they were there for homecoming. The crowd was raucous and their win was convincing. “They used 5 different receivers. That was a plus. Overall, I loved the trip and I wouldn’t mind going back,” Gooding said.

Even though he enjoyed the visit, Sequan mentioned that his college visits are done for the time being. His plan is to focus on the playoff run ahead for Oscar Smith. “I don’t have any other visits planned. I’m going to focus on the rest of my season and win a State Championship with my team.”

I worked at that school as a substitute teacher and a swim coach. My mother also works in the office there as well. Her and my Dad go to all the football games. Coach Rich Morgan has produced some winners in that program. If memory serves me correctly... in the past 6 years they have not lost a single game in the regular season. They've also won two state championships.
