We didn't show up to play. The playcalling was poor, the execution was poor, the special teams were not where they should be (except Bevins). Coastal was ready for us -- they saw something in the game film and exploited it, and we either couldn't or wouldn't correct at halftime.
Coastal wanted it more than we did. Plain and simple. And we've shown everybody in the FCS just how overrated we are. We've cruised this far because our opponents were a lot worse than we are, but Coastal isn't. They played a full game for possibly the first time all season and embarrassed us.
We need to fix the defense before next week, or this could happen to us again.

It's just year after year you see what this team can be on the positive side, and then what they also can be from the negative side. Defense didn't even bother today. The question is why didn't they? After playing so well lately and putting a lot of pressure on the quarterback we didn't really try until we had nothing to lose. If this team is to ever make the next step it's gotta be the defense that delivers. There's something to be said about having a defense week in and week out that keeps you in ball games. They didn't stop coastal at all. All we saw differently in the second half was missed field goals and conservative play calling until we got a little closer. You have to have a defense to compete.Sly Fox wrote:Bring your analysis and frustration here.
When does frustration turn into something you expect?

slickus23 wrote:Their QB is a good player for this conference, but he wasn't that impressive against teams that are legit giving his 12 td and 12 int's coming into this game. We just made him look like Joe Montana.I agree completely. They are senior-laden at the skill positions on both sides of the ball and played like it today. I think most in Conway are as stunned at today's events as we are. Now they have to shift gears and cheer us on if they want to have any shot at the postseason.

Liberty hasn't been to the playoffs, won a playoff game or a national championship. This team has a track record of losing important games late in the season or losing to lesser opponents (Presbyterian, Robert Morris, Coastal). Sure, all of that definitely sounds like a team that should consider up move up with the big boys.On the field success at the I-FCS level has little to do with FBS viability. Regardless if it was Montana moving up or Presbyterian, there will always be growing pains on the field in years 1-3. Success at the FBS level depends on the amount of funding you can put in a program over time.
truedrewdawg87 wrote:So, you're telling me that a program's current success shouldn't factor AT ALL into the decision to move up? That is RIDICULOUS!!! If you're above average at best at your current level (which Liberty is) what reason do you have to believe you'll be successful against better competition and that the "growing pains" you speak of won't take longer than 1-3 years? I'll never understand the FBS talk among Liberty fans. Liberty has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to make any rational person think moving up is a good idea. It's certainly not at the top of the list. $$$, Facilities, and Conference Affiliation are much more important to long term FBS success than how good the team is before they move up. See Montana. That is RIDICULOUS!!!
