I really liked the 4 man front today. I feel like it might have been done because of the injury to Conolly, rather than truly thinking it's the best approach, but I just feel like with the linemen we have (Robertson, Adams, Bannon, Champan, Schuster, Freeman) that we can control the line on EVERY play if we put enough guys up on the line. Combine 4 of those with a blitz from Broggin or O'Donnell or Vinson, and you can get to the QB every time.

If these are real changes, and this is our defense, then I am giving props to Clark and Rocco. It was very solid today, and hopefully we stay strong with it and can continue to control the line.

I'm definitely intrigued. I liked it. I thought we ran it well. Granted, it was VMI, but we looked good in it.

I know our coaches are 3-4 coaches, but with our personnel, we may have stumbled on something that works really good for us. We won't leave our "base 3-4" but I could see us playing this quite a bit in the future.

With such a space eater in Asa, I just have a hard time seeing us not playing 3-4. He's a NT if I ever saw one. But hey, it worked well today.

I called in to the coaches show a few weeks ago and asked coach, why we went to the 4-3 against Ball State, and then back to the 3-4 against RMU? His response was he did not think we matched up physically with Ball State up front.

I am not a real coach, but I did play EA sports version of the coaches game a few times.....

I think that the most talent and depth we have on D is our Line , So doesn't playing four of them at a time make sense. Especially with Broggin playing lights out pass defense.

I'm sure the coaching staff knows the personnel better than we do, but I agree with you, Ri. This certainly makes sense to a guy looking in from my side of the tv screen.
