Until a TV contract of signficance is signed, no school east the of the Rockies is going to be moving to the Pac. That article stating that those networks were still interested doesn't say how low the numbers would have to be before they would pounce. Everyone likes that After Dark slot .... at the right price.

I remember seeing that when it was announced but didn’t think much of it. I guess it’s good for the woman’s swim and diving team that they’ll finally have competition but I don’t think there’s greater significance to it.

Considering the Big East doesn't play football, of course we're not getting an invite there.

It’s a massive foot in the door if nothing else. That the AAC would invite Liberty is a big deal IMHO. While yes only an affiliate for an Olympic sport, the Presidents still need to sign off on it. Good sign for the future - remember this post.

Article about LU planning to get involve in the the House settlement:

https://newsadvance.com/sports/college/ ... -top-story

(Update and Edit) -Key notes from McCaw according to the article:

1.
"We do feel like we've got a good plan, and we'll be ready to execute if this is approved here in another six or seven weeks," McCaw said.
2. LU will benchmark the amount of revenue sharing with the Group of Five (will the top G5 schools do the same though or will they aim higher)
- [According to a report from CBS Sports, more than 50% of Group of Five college football programs earn less than $40 million annually/i]
3.
Really the months of May and June, I think," McCaw said, "are when people are going to be having to finalize their plans and be ready to execute.

We're definitely looking at another round of realignment with finances due to the House Settlement, which should set us up for at least the AAC in a few years. Does anyone know how many G6's have opted in and out o f the House Settlement? I've only heard of us and NMSU in CUSA doing so.

That article was merely a few weeks ago. But they are trying to get into the PAC right now...

This is from an Oregon State fan/blogger account. Not sure I believe this about Memphis & Tulane. I do think that Texas State joins the PAC this spring/summer though.

Sacramento State is applying to move up to FBS as an independent going the Liberty route.

Might not be a bad move to try to be ready to join a conference in a time that conferences could get desperate.

I can’t imagine this ending well for them. They are a bottom feeder in the FCS and there’s several G5 schools in the state they’re now going to be competing against for recruits.

They are looking at the long haul. They have a ton of infrastrusture projects which will keep them busy for a couple of years. So why not get the clock ticking on the transtion period. They obviously feel they can handle the House Settlement requirements and don't want their FCS status to stand in the way of potential opportunities.

All of that said, it does seem like a FAMU-esque folly. Clearly they have resources that make this possible as evident by the Mike Bibby (Lynchburg connection!) hire. They recognize what is standing in the way of MWC membership and want to remove those obstacles. But who knows if the PWC or Pac will still be there when they are finally ready.

They are trying to build $200-250 million worth of athletics facilities funding entirely through sponsorships and donations at a school with a $92 million endowment. I guess this move will make it easier to ask for donations but consider me skeptical that they’re going to be able to build a fraction of the facilities they’ve been proposing.

They're location is a huge selling point, which I'm not sure why the MWC or PAC didn't/hasn't given them more consideration. Sacramento is like the 20th largest media market in the country & the largest market without an NFL or FBS team. They seemed to be a better invite to me than the MWC inviting UCD without their decent FCS team. Either way, I'm looking forward to playing the in football since "P4's (& upper end of the G5) won't play us."

The current situation with Nico Iamaleava situation shows how destructive the P4 will continue to be, but also shows how the hopeful aspirations of Liberty or even a Memphis, USF to get into a power conference will not happen unless they play the same game. It'll be even harder for Liberty who is in the bottom conference of FBS. Change does not look possible anymore in this business.
