Asheville leads the first game 3-2 in the 6th.

I threw up a quick analysis on our site -- basically, i'd expect a sweep here...Would be thrilled if we could steal a game. We haven't proven we can get anyone out all year and we have a few guys that can hit -- but no one has shown consistent pop. Graham & McIntosh are our best hitters -- Justin Schumer probably has the most potential/pop but he's been up and down in all the years he's been at asheville. Very streaky fastball hitter that is capable of going on a tear or going 0'fer in a series. His career numbers bear this out but I'd say he's the one guy Liberty doesn't want to 'beat' them.

On our end we've got some below average arms in our weekend rotation that have pitched decently well. The kid we started today hasn't been in the top 3 -- its mostly been Dull, Wohlend & Schumer so expect at least one of those guys out of the pen instead. Really the only consistent "D1" arm we have is Schumer who had a good outting last weekend at Radford -- but has been inconsistent throughout his career. He'll throw sunday. Dan Weller is our best arm out of the pen .... He's got a great changeup and has been the only pitcher that has consistently gotten outs this year, but again, he tops out at around 84-85 mph so not a big time arm. As a whole it is hard not to have an 8-9 era (as a staff) when only one pitcher can come close to hitting 90mph.

Asheville is scrappy and will play hard, but, if you guys show up I don't see any reason this should be much of a series. The only thing I will say is just in looking at the stats for your weekend arms they haven't really faced any teams that are very good so far. Granted Asheville is awful -- but it *is* a lot different once you get in conference and start playing teams you see every year and are comfortable with.

It was an epic pitchers duel (and you can only do some much when the guys on the hill are on their game). Steven just made one pitch he wanted back and they got it...

pitcher goes out and throws the game of his life and all of a sudden it means LU sucks? Seriously...give the man a little credit...we're going through a tough patch offensively I will admit...but the guys got a good win in the third game and hopefully they can finally get off the schnide on the midweek side against GMU

disappointing series to say the least. the bats came alive in the second game of the doubleheader though. its still early but we need to be winning these weekend series. we are a better team IMO, but congrats to UNCA, because this weekend they got it done!

It doesn't mean that all of the sudden "LU Sucks" -- but it did eliminate any slim chance that still remained of an at-large. And it also probably means you guys are going to have to sweep Coastal & Winthrop to have a look at the #1 seed in the tourny.

Asheville played well -- but they are still a very bad baseball team. Sure in the first game of the DH they had a guy go out and pitch well -- but it was still a guy that had a 6 ERA coming into the game and a guy that honestly probably wouldn't be on the pitching staff at LU. I know for a fact that about half of the teams in the Big South would cut him because he just doesn't have the "D1" type stuff. Again he threw awesome but as bad as Liberty Played they still had opportunities to take 2 of 3, and possibly still sweep, and they didn't capitalize.

Great baseball teams find ways to win when they aren't at their best -- average teams are average because when they don't bring their 'A game' they lose.

Yeah, the team started off looking good, and now it's nothing short of a disappointment... It's unfortunate.
