Anybody know the strength of schedule for this season? After looking over it I am a bit concerned about our ability to get an at large bid with this kind of schedule. Winning the B.S. Tournament has been next to impossible with Coastal and their deep pitching staff always thwarting our efforts. I want the type of schedule DAVE PASTORS put together back in the late 90's and early 2000's.

haha Dave Pastors... I run into him every once in a while when I go back home to Ohio.

Anyway, i think i might have posted this in a previous discussion but obviously you guys don't have the 'signature' opponents that Coastal & Winthrop are scheduling right now (coastal has USD, UC Irvine, Kentucky, UVA, and Michigan (among others) on the schedule this year, most coming to their park, winthrop has mostly mid-weeks with UNC, Georgia, SC, but also going to Texas A&M).

I'm not entirely sure why to be honest... I think you guys are good enough that you could play a weekend series against a top ACC school and steal one or two and it helps your case at the end of the year. Or even if its just playing a couple more mid-weeks against BCS conf types...it helps.

Having said that, you do have some above average mid-majors on the schedule so if things go your way and those teams all have good years (Elon, UNC-W, ODU, Kennesaw) then maybe you have a shot. If your going for an at-large its just too risky (in my mind) to schedule weaker and hope teams are up... Your relying too much on what other teams are doing.

Having said that Coastal is a top 25 team, and winthrop is a top 40 team (arguably) so winning those series also gives you a big boost. I haven't seen anything on SOS yet...I usually go to http://www.boydsworld.com but not sure if he's still doing stuff. He stopped writing his columns so not sure if he'll start updating stats once 2010 season starts. GREAT site btw, fascinating stuff.

But I just don't really get why you guys are scheduling home & aways with Duke, and scheduling maryland etc. That's stuff UNCA should be doing right now...and has done in the past... But, easy for an outsider to criticize.
