College sports' governing body announced it will suspend membership dues for the 2009-10 school year.
The NCAA also hopes to save about $500,000 by holding most of its future committee meetings in Indianapolis. Some meetings are currently held there, but about half of the meetings are held in other parts of the nation.
Schools normally pay $900 to $1,800 in annual dues. The expense is determined by the division to which the school belongs. The decision covers schools in all three divisions, and the NCAA estimates the suspension will keep $1.3 million in the schools' coffers.
The NCAA executive committee approved the move during its April 30 meeting.
