If roundball is your blood, this is the place to discuss the Flames as they move into the Ritchie McKay era for the 2nd time.

I was looking back at the stats from the 5 games he played in last season, and I feel confident Carter will give us some positive contribution next season. He got hurt sometime during or just after the Asheville game, and the 3 games he played in after that he only played 11 minutes. So, looking at the 2 games in which he was healthy his stats were:

34 minutes
3-10 FG
2-7 3pt FGs
8 points
4 rebounds
3 blocks

That’s not a bad stat line for someone’s first 2 collegiate games.

In our limited sample-size of what CM can do...the most important thing is that he isn't afraid to shoot. We really need TB to step up and take some of those jumpers last year and he wouldn't.

I don't think CM passes up too many looks.

I have to say character wise he's one of my favorites on the team. All around good guy and I promise you guys he will bring a lot to the table...I expect some out of him next year but in 2 years he'll be a force

I'm pretty sure Carter was actually injured in practice before the UNCA game. He tried to play with it, but apparently it was getting worse, so they shut him down.I don't think we actually have seen him play healthy yet.

I hate to keep ragging on Carter. I really don't have much of a gauge to use at this point, but I just haven't seen anything I like yet. Look at those stats - took 70% of shots from 3. We just need him to be a threat down low also and he never looked comfortable down there AND he was playing against teams that were much shorter than him. If he can improve his post game and his foot work - I think he can come off the bench to give us a good 10-15 mins a game. Anything more at this point would be asking to much of him. And, for the love of Pete, please never wear those pants again that he wore to the last game!!

Thinking back on it, you're correct. I was at practice the day after the Montreat game, and he was on the sidelines with ice on his foot.

Tyler would have shot the ball more but his confidence was destroyed by RM.

I think it was the middle of the backboard that destroyed his confidence....

His confidence was already destroyed at that point.

You know he was told not to shot, right? HMO - you play softball - it would be like your coach saying - HMO if you catch the ball - don't throw it, just run it in or when up to bat they told you to bunt.

which is another good thing that came out of RM leaving, no more 'don't shoot cause you are taking away from shots that the big 3 could be shooting'

somehow i think Layer will say as long as its in rhythm of the offense you have a green light, but the second you run down and pop a 3 without trying to work the ball around you are going to be joining me on the bench

I'm seriously anxious to see Carter prove the doubters wrong. We have no player on our roster with more upside than Carter. We have a coach with a commitment (some in Ft. Collins might say to a fault) to developing big men. I really believe VERY big things are not that far down the road.

BUMP

Transferred to Palm Beach Atlantic University (thanks to Flame Convert sharing this breaking news with me).

Primm Announces New Signings for Men's Basketball
August 31, 2011
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Coming off a season that saw the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s basketball program win 12 games including eight games within the always-competitive NCAA South Region, the team is gearing up for what they hope to be another solid campaign in 2011-12. Head coach Terry Primm and his staff recently announced the addition of seven new players to the roster for the upcoming season.

Carter McMasters, Alan Hardy Jr., Marcus Hardy, John Hawkins, Johnny Lantz, Mac Walden, and Collin Lynch will all join the Sailfish roster this fall as the team returns several players who contributed valuable minutes last season.

“We feel that this class addresses our immediate needs and puts us in a great position for the future”, said Primm.

“Our main goal with this class was to add size and depth to our front line and we have done that with Carter, John, and Marcus. We are very excited about this class.”

McMasters is a 6’11” center who is transferring to PBA after spending three years at NCAA Division I Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee and a graduate of Grace Baptist Academy, McMasters originally chose Liberty over Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Clemson. He was ranked in the top 50 players in the nation at the center position in 2008 by ESPN.com.

After incurring an injury that cost him his freshman season, McMasters put together his best year at Liberty as a redshirt freshman in 2009-2010 when he averaged four points and three rebounds per game while playing 17 minutes per contest.

Coach Primm on McMasters: “Carter is going to be a huge addition to our program. With his size and shooting ability he will be challenge for opposing coaches to try to defend. Not only will Carter be an important piece of our system on the court but he will also be a valuable member of our team and of the university off the court.”

McMasters will have two years of eligibility remaining at PBA

Wow, yet another LU connection at PBA. Stephon Leary used to be head coach there and a certain LU prof of particularly close relation to me came most recently from there.
