I remember 1) not getting a call-back for a job I was more than qualified for and 2) not getting into a graduate school I was more than qualified for and I thought to myself, it's because of my religious background.

After all, in instance #2, my GPA was a full point above the average GPA for its incoming students, and my GRE score was nearly 200 points higher. Plus, I was a legacy -- my father had gone there, and so did his. But I got turned down, and I thought it was because I had "Liberty University" on my resume.

It took me some time before I stopped moping around and said, maybe it wasn't because I went to Liberty, or because I'm a conservative. Maybe I just wasn't qualified. Sure, it sucks, but it's better than being ticked off all the time.

Don't most graduate schools take into account more than just GPA and GRE/GMAT scores? I know they did when I entered into graduate school...
