I just checked on our competition for the GMU tourney. GMU and Rutgers are both 0-3 and St. Francis is 1-3. GMU lost to Georgetown, George Washington, and American. Rutgers lost to Binghamton, Northern Arizona, and Akron. St. Francis beat Marist 3-1 and lost to Duquesne, Loyola, and Robert Morris. I don't want us to get complacent in this tournament. It may be difficult to stay focused and keep the energy and effort up if the competition doesn't spark us. I fully believe we can come out of this tournament without a loss if we stay focused. I do like our chances of being 6-0 to start the season after this tournament if we don't look ahead to the next two tournaments.

Yes, we need to stay focused in this tournament. Who do you think will be our toughest opponent here?

Tough to tell. None of them have played really tough teams. The only winner in the bunch is St. Francis. I think this is a great opportunity to build on the success of last weekend.

This weekend should be used by the Lady Flames to play hard and gain confidence. By doing so, they can enter the Kansas State Tournament ready to fight for every point.

LU looked unstoppable at the start of the first set, then we had some trouble with serve receive, and let them back into the game. We then opened it up, and they never recovered. They just didn't have the horses to hang with us. We got to see play from several girls that we haven't seen much of. Kirstyn and Carmen played very well and Becka did a great job serving. Claire got some good minutes, too. Nicki has not been feeling well and coach had Becka serve for her in two of the sets, and he rested Nicki in set 3 and didn't play her at all. We played some great defense in sections of the match and they had no answer for Chelaine on the slide. It's great that some of the other players got good play time. I think it is really helping develop our depth for later in the season.

Outstanding report. I hope Nicki gets to feeling better. There IS a bit of an intestinal virus running around campus.

I just hope its not mono...one of the athletes on one of the teams on campus currently has that, and its not fun.

We started out very flat against JMU. They had us down 8-1 or something like that. Our serve receive was awful and we just couldn't get anything started. GMU was flying around on defense and just picking up everything. We finally started making a comeback when the score was 15-5 or thereabouts. We tied it up at 23 on Nicki's only kill of the set. Then the ref called Kallie for a double on a quick she set to Ashley. It was an awful call. On the next serve receive, Kallie set Nicki on the right side and she hit it out. I believe we would have won if not for the bad call. We put them away the next 3 sets without too much of a scare. Nicki sat out the last two sets of the match. Karyl, Jess and Brittany were on fire. They were just crushing the ball. Kelly played very well in the last 3 sets. Kallie was her usual great self. It was good to see the team stare adversity down and win a tough match.

Thanks for the review of the match. I watched the gametracker on the website but it doesn't give you any feel for the emotions or quality of play.
Keep on rolling Flames!!! :)

We have a new star at LU. Her name is Brittany Pacella. Wow what a match she played against Rutgers. She was 9 for 10 in the first two sets and just was phenomenal. Great court vision. She saw the holes and hit them well and mixed off-speed hits with her power kills. It was really fun to watch. Nicki sat out the first set and played the last 3. She had 18 kills and hit .500. Karyl and Jess were great as usual , and Chelaine played awesome. Props to Kelly for her outstanding defense. Kallie was her usual efficient self, making some awesome sets off of iffy passes and dishing the ball to the hot hands. Ashley was a wall up front that Rutgers had real trouble with. We were able to hold it together and overcome a tough first set again for another victory. Nicki and Chelaine were selected for the All-Tournament team. If I could describe our team with one word right now, it would be resilient. They have weathered tough storms and come out victorious, because they refuse to accept defeat as an option.

GO FLAMES!!!

It is very tough not being there to see every bump, set and spike! It really helps knowing Kelly is part of something special. I know that Liberty is where the Lord has prepared a place for her to learn and grow. Thanks to all our new friends for giving Kelly the encouragement and the hugs she needs at each match. Wade, I appreciate the call to give me the "what really happened" picture.
Congrats to all the Flames Volleyball players and coaches. We are proud of your success on the court and your christian example off the court.

James Madison is up next! Go get'em Flames.
