Yes, he was an amazing wrestler. He wrestled for Oklahoma State before he came to LU. He was one match away from the medal stand at the 1974 NCAA championships. He had a couple of close losses at the tournament, OSU won the team championship. He also has a decision by points loss to the legendary Dan Gable. He came to LU and easily ran the slate and won the NCCAA championship. (National Christian College Athletic Association) Bob Bonheim called him a wrestling "gypsy". I heard that the day after the season ended he got in his car and headed out. I don't think Bonheim even knows where he ended up. Maple was an absolute beast on the mat. Maybe the most talented wrestler to ever come to Liberty. That's very high praise considering the many, many great wrestlers who have come through this program. He was only here for one season.
