Dodds is gone, Patterson is following in his footsteps, and Louisville is never joining the Big XII.

There might not be anyone in Austin lamenting the absence of Louisville, but there are plenty of people in Dallas and Waco that wish that they had a chance to play Louisville this season instead of Kansas, Iowa State, or Texas Tech and compete in a conference championship game. That doesn't mean that they would have made the playoffs ahead of Ohio State, but they would have had a better shot. But don't tell that to Art Briles. :)

Who does the Big 12 take though? BYU would be a nice addition (and actually wouldn't open up any spots for us), but they would need at least one more if they don't get the waiver.

As for the ACC offering a ND-esque like deal to Texas, yeah...not going to happen. Its Texas, not Notre Dame.

I think that it will be BYU and Cincinnati. Have read some articles speculating about other schools, but highly doubt that that happens.

Texas can swing a scheduling agreement with the ACC if it wants to. There are very few schools that could command that, but Texas is one of them.

I hope so. A BYU-WVU match up would be EPIC! Talk about 2 entirely different fan bases. I'd declare it an immediate rivalry game

"If the Big 12 adds a championship football game in the near future, it will come through the NCAA legislative process, commissioner Bob Bowlsby said Thursday.

"The conference’s stance on expansion remains the same, Bowlsby said.

'I don’t think our position has changed one iota,' Bowlsby said, nothing that conference presidents have not met recently. 'We like 10 [members]. We’re going to stay at the 10 for the foreseeable future.'”

My pleasure! Thanks for "breaking the story", so to speak! That should put this line of speculation to bed unless the NCAA denies them the 10-team waiver for a championship game. It was fun while it lasted! :)

The Big 12 shouldn't expand. They were a significantly better conference than the wretched B1G this year and only lost out on a playoff spot due to name recognition/TV influence. TCU and Baylor are both a couple of touchdowns better than the B1G Mac. The Big 12 was 3-0 against the B1G Joke this year including a horrible Iowa State team winning against the their instate rivals. The biggest OOC win for the B1G this year was Indiana over SEC Least joke Mizzou. We're talking about tOSU getting in despite a 14 point home loss against the 9th/10th best team in the ACC.

Hopefully the Big 12 sticks to their guns and, when tOSU loses by 30 against Bama, just gloats at the horrendous decision made by the morons on the committee.

It's to bad they didn't visit us :(

"Banowsky and other league officials were impressed with James Madison's facilities and the academics of the school when they made a trip to Harrisonburg last year."

We could swing leaving the big south next week right??

"But because most conferences require members to give notice they are leaving more than a year in advance - a rule often enforced with a hefty exit fee - any expansion almost certainly won't take place until 2016-17"

I didn't read the whole article, so, correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that will play into Liberty's favor.

I believe when we lobbied for the Sun Belt, one of our pitches was that we could leave our conference more quickly than anyone else.

With all the drama going on with JMU's playoff bid, I'm almost certain that they won't be making any moves soon.

I think this has hurts us more than help us. What we've experienced is conferences knowing that we're always going to be there while they are ever so gently pursuing other schools. The Sun Belt did that with us and JMU. JMU didn't fall for it though. In the meantime we're still available.

As for C-USA, ODU has openly lobbied for JMU. They visited JMU already. ODU expressed its feeling for LU, but C-USA has not visited us, at least not yet. If C-USA does come to visit, that would be a great stepping stone because it can give them (C-USA) the opportunity to clear up any misconceptions or doubts with Liberty.

If they send out an offer to anyone, it won't be until April.
Wow. Really? That's awesome if they did.

Realistically, the chances of them taking 3 VA schools are slim to none. And since ODU's loyalty to JMU (from their CAA days) runs pretty deep, JMU holds the upper hand. Liberty would have to hope for a major shift in their conference membership to consider us.

If we made CUSA the same financial offer we did the Sun Belt they would be nuts to not give us a good hard look. Someone said it was similar to what West Virginia paid to get their move.

The idea that ODU and JMU have this close relationship is also flawed.
This. I don't know why people act like those two schools are close, they aren't.

Also, I would be shocked if JMU moves up in the next five years. That playoff bid fiasco gave all of their anti-FBS people even more ammo. JMU isn't us. They aren't desperate to move up. Many up there would rather stay in the CAA than move to the C-USA. Of the ones who would support an FBS move, they aren't jumping at the first offer either.

The C-USA is completely different than the Sun-Belt. The Sun-Belt has been approaching expansion with an "eventually we'll get around to it attitude." However, I believe that the C-USA almost always operates with speed and if they're going to add someone, it's going to be sooner than later.

Liberty's new Executive Vice President is Randy Smith, the current President of WSET-TV. A pretty savvy hire on several levels. I'm tempted to speculate that there is a TV-market angle hidden somewhere in there. Would be curious to understand what kind of ideas and influence he brings in that regard. Just a thought.

That's quite a scoop there - it's barely on the Internet. I wonder if he's replacing someone or filling a new role...

Wow, I haven't thought about TVSpy in years. That site used to rock back in the day with industry gossip.

Since he has been in TV management, he is either a sales guy or a former News Director who stepped up the ladder at some point. So he could be utilized in any number of places.

Don't forget Liberty acquired the New WTLU24 station. The station will produce original content news, talk, sports, and weather — to run 24 hours a day.
