They will lose their BCS status if they don't add anyone of value. A big reason for the addition of TCU was to ensure they keep their BCS bowl bid. Now they lose Pitt and TCU. Only competent football team left is West VA. That isn't going to leave them with a BCS bid after too long, and West VA isn't exactly tying themselves down to the Big East as it is...

I don't really think that any conference is going to lose it's BCS status. That would just open up the potential for lawsuits, not to mention that there is already a lawsuit filed by the state of Utah that the BCS violates anti-trust laws. I think kicking out yet more schools from the system would only hurt the BCS's standing.

Let's hope the Big East starts adding schools from places other than Indy's. We need the Big East to continue to be raided, and the CUSA to begin to be raided.

I agree. My father is completely obsessed about "where is WVU going to go". Nowhere. Why would we? As long as we have an AQ for football, why leave? All we have to do is beat Pitt every year (which we do). And for basketball, all we have to do now is compete against UConn, Notre Dame, and Georgetown (and perhaps St. Johns).

So, looking at this from a WVU perspective, I'm not too worried about it.

I know everyone thinks the Big East will lose it's AQ status. It hasn't happened, and I'm not sure it ever will.

*I say we because I'm from there, but as I know, Liberty first.

You'll never go to the BCS Title game coming out of a Big East without any competent football teams outside of WVa - Pitt is leaving. The SOS hit you take from in-conference games will kill those chances, unless you play a murderer's row for non-conference, and then you'd likely come out with multiple losses, effectively ending BCS Title game chances.

well, wildcats, I'm a huge homer for WVU but I really don't see us competing for BCS Title games...

Us?!?!?! Don't come round here using that kind of pronoun when referring to the hillbillies.. or anyone not called the FLAMES! Got that? Now carry on.

You know I like you anyway, right jbock?

Stop drinking the home brew brother!
Stuff ur blasphemy. The next Major Harris is out there.....somewhere...maybe! The Big East is best for now b/c of the AQ, but it's not going to help us nationally. Morgantown always looks east and south. Moving "west" isn't going to help at all. Now if the ACC or BIG came calling then that would be a great fit. I still like us in the BIG, partly bc the Backyard Brawl will be for even more bragging rights!

I know, I know  read my post above I said, Liberty first. Sorry gold and blue bleeds all the way through my family, sometimes those pesky pronouns get in the way. :D

And don't worry, I know, I'm pretty friendly toward all.

And Haize, Pitt is going to the ACC, so joining the Big 10 won't help any.

ECU, CFU, SMU, and Houston all could go to the Big East. So how many need to move on for us to get the invite? I don't think all four would be enough to get the invite to USA but there would be some openings somewhere on the FBS level for us.

As the official Big East homer, I don't mind TCU going to the Big 12. It was the right decision for them, for obvious reasons.

Honestly, I didn't really like TCU joining the Big East anyway. Not that they're good, but think of the travel costs for unprofitable sports. It would rival close to Louisiana Tech and Hawaii.

It is tough to determine which path the C-USA leadership will choose to take in the wake of their impending losses. There remains the possibility of the MWC alliance although that will lose some luster once the likely departures occur. We don't want the alliance as it would most likely mean we are out of the equation.

There is talk the league could try and become a SW regional league which would obviously hurt us. Or they could try to go the 16-team route to preserve their league and we would most certainly be on the list of potential additions.
