It appears all speculation will stay on hold to see whether or not the Big XII can stay together. If it does, then Mizzou stays put and the SEC looks east. If not, you can add Columbia to your SEC travel plans.

So would the SEC separate AU and Bama to even out the divisions? I don't really see that happening. What would happen with the divisions if Mizzou makes it 14?

In all honesty, it looks like the Big XII is going to be held together with bailing wire. And to assure that the league survives the next wave, they are discussing the possibility of having each member team give the league their 1st & 2nd tier broadcast rights for like 5-6 years. That way no other conference would want any of the teams without the rights (similar to ACC's $20M protection). It is an interesting concept but I'm not sure everyone is willing to get on board. For the record, the Longhorn Network is a 3rd Tier deal which wouldn't be directly affected.

As part of its desperation, UT is now relenting on the possibility of TCU coming back into the fold. They could ultimately wind up being Team #10 or could be part of a new 12-team lineup.

If Mizzou does rebuff the SEC, it gets real interesting figuring out who #14 might ultimately be. With Big XII & ACC eliminated as potential targets, the remaining Big East schools and the service academies come back into play.

You get the feeling that the SEC might be feeling a little disappointed in how this has all gone down. While they captured a prize in Texas, they haven't exactly managed the residuals from that decision well.

Their alumni are apparently adverse to leaving behind their traditional Big 8 rivalries. They still have their Illinois matchups out of conference lined up. But going to the SEC would be uncharted waters and mean their fans would be able to travel to less games. The Missouri administration has all but said that the SEC is a last resort if nothing can be ironed out int he Big XII.

I've read Louisville to the Big 12 many many places on the world wide webs. Just a rumor obviously but a fairly popular one. They seem like a pretty good fit.

I always felt like Louisville was a better fit for SEC. I doubt Kentucky signs off on it without a fight but it just seems like it works.

All SEC schools have veto rights for adding in-state schools. And UL really brings nothing to the table for football or tv market. Weak football team and UK already dominates any TV market area UL would have.

Although it would be a nice basketball addition if Pitino could ever manage to do anything in the NCAA Tournament again. One thing to consider though is that UL makes tons of money off of in-arena beer sales for basketball - the major reason why they are the most profitable basketball team in the country. My understanding is that the SEC does not allow that, I've never been to an SEC basketball game so I can't vouch for that.

More buzz today about WVu joining the SEC...What is the deal? I prefer they join and solidify the ACC

The B1G would be Mizzou's 1st choice if they were to leave. But after getting rebuffed and somewhat embarrassed a year ago, there is no reason to believe that will happen.

The Louisville discussions by the Big XII are primarily because there are so few viable candidates.

I would like to see TCU and UH go to the Big 12, makes sense from a travel standpoint.

Don't jump to conclusions just yet. Nothing in Mizzou statements today indicated anything looming in regard to SEC. I imagine there are some interesting discussions going on right now in B1G circles. the crazy thing is that it was the Mizzou leadership that up until today was leading the charge to revamp the Big XII forcing everyone to commit long-term. So yeah, today's announcement was a bit surprising.

But it suits our interests better if the Big XII & Big East are plucking schools from lower level leagues instead of cannibalizing each other.

This moves screams out desperation on the part of the Big XII to appease Mizzou while preparing for apocalyptic scenarios. TCU really doesn't bring much to the Big XII outside of another member. Trust me, this hurt UT to agree on this one.

If TCU doesn't go to the BIG EAST, that basically strips their BCS bid away when it comes time for that review. Every remaining football team will want to get out ASAP.
