I don't mind something less tangible like a day or two off the other side of the holiday, free dorm room for the extra night or two, etc. "but give me something to attend the game" , no thanks.

If I am a student and my football team has a chance to go to the playoffs for the first time, I am there period.
Amen.

The importance of the game is what kids have to understand, not giving them something.
Not to mention that we get into the games for free. At other schools, students have to put their names on waiting lists to get tickets and then probably pay for them as well.

We need to remember that we are "building" a tradition of sports. I live in a state where people attend a school entirely because they pulled for that team's football team all their life. I know people who WILL NOT attend the cross state rival, in spite of the fact that the rival school offers the career choice education. The bottom line is that they are loyal to their football history. They own shirts, skirts, and bed sheets of their football team. We need to spend the money NOW to build that same type of loyalty. We need to cover the stadium with "future" students and long time fans. We need people who are "20 somethings" that have never attended Liberty but attends all their home games because they have attended since they were a child. We need to see the bigger picture, the really big picture.

What say you?

You can't always give things away to get people to come. It becomes expected and the only reason people come is to get "stuff." Eventually they want bigger and better "stuff" or else they stop coming. We can't do that. That's a very slippery slope. The importance of the game and these seniors should get people to stay. If not, they would've left at halftime anyways.

I've got an idea for a video that pass around YouTube and Facebook if I can find the footage to use for it.

SJ's right. We have to build fans, not mooches. Those are the people that will fill the seats, and will stay all the way through a 42-0 game. Those are the people who will be loud when they need to be, and will be paying attention enough that the announcer doesn't have to remind them it's 3rd down.

Liberty football needs to be an event that people want to be a part of, whether they're students, faculty, or just Lynchburgers who support good football.

If I wasn't lazy, I'd look up the story of the guy who gave a bunch of kids a quarter to play baseball in the neighborhood. It's one of the most used references when studying motivation.

Thats not entirely true. During the last Mens Basketball run to the Tourney we have a crap load of stuff away and the place was packed. Granted just like football winning helps, but no one complained we didn't keep giving away better stuff.
