i heard the same as you Bury. JMU wants nothing to do with Sun Belt.

and expansion isn't even close to being over yet. slowed yes but not done. MAC is gonna expand. JMU knows it. it's one of the MAC's favorites/.

i don't know where that guy got his info from.

Why are all of you believing some forum post from a guy who acknowledged his source being, "a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy?"

I don't know PH's source, so I can't determine his credibility. But I can say that PH has been quite pessimistic about our FBS future. He's patient in making predictions and most of them are pretty accurate. Thus, when he comes on here and says that he's got info, I'll take his word versus some guy who has some 7th degree source.

Lastly, there are more JMU fans arguing for JMU to stay in the CAA than there are for them to move to the Sun Belt. I don't know if that's the mentality among the administration, but if it is, we're fine. The Sun Belt needs a team and JMU doesn't look appear anxious.

Regardless, if JMU does not receive an invite from the MAC, no one will know their final answer to the Sun Belt until after the CAA tournament.

Chiefsfan stated in the JMU CSNbbs board this info that is bad for us:
As of a week ago, Liberty did not have the votes for SBC Membership. Considering SBC meetings cant go more than a few hours without teams threatening to start their own league right now...I don't see an invite coming.

Benson would love nothing more than to invite Liberty...but ASU, ULL, Texas State, and Troy are pushing for Missouri State.

There are 11 teams. That's only 4 votes. We actually had ties to Ark St and I think they owe us a favor. Also, if JMU isn't coming, which I highly doubt, you can leverage the Champioship game and dollars to probably pry one or two away. You can also promise to bring Mo St in after Idaho or someone else leave.

I find it odd that Liberty has been able to keep this entire process quiet, but all of a sudden a Liberty poster has been given all this inside info. Something doesn't add up. I just can't see JMU lowering themselves to be in the SB with schools from the deep South.

You know what? To hear that schools may leave to form their own conference is flat out comical. There is a lot of money and time that is involved in forming a new conference. The AAC was able to do it because of the exit fees they collected from departing schools.

Even if some of the Sun Belt schools had the resources to start a new conference, there is still a waiting period (I believe it's 7 years) before being eligible for an auto-bid from the NCAA. This is one of the main reasons why the new 'Eastern Conference' that was rumored did not happen.

Suppose Ark St, ULL, Texas St and Troy do leave and form their own conference and invite MO State. Who else are they going to invite? Schools from the MVFC? Outside of North Dakota St, the majority of those schools aren't ready for prime-time. Schools from the Southland Conference? The same conference that some SBC schools are trying to avoid being associated with even though most of those same schools originated from the Southland. Go figure.

My info did not come from any Liberty Administration source. I have taken various pieces of information gleaned from non LU people I know and putting those together came up with my prediction. I just want to put it out there since I do know people there.
Like any good bet, it can be ruined by a half court shot at the buzzer to blow the spread. Our lost poster logic says he's got good info too from very reliable sources, maybe it's the same people he's using to run polls in Roanoke 8)
IF the powers that be at JMU got definitive word from the MAC and CUSA that expansion is on hold for 5 years I can see them putting in a SBC bid. Then it comes down to the vote. It seems that the definite 'No's' are because they want to have a closer school to them, which the quick perusal of the SBC board, is Missouri State. So if those schools can't get in Missouri St will they vote for no expansion or if not, who do they vote for. Voting for LU gives them a better shot at getting Missouri St in next since JMU will bolt ASAP. That puts the SBC in the exact same spot they are now. A vote for LU gives them stability so that if any other school bolts, they can make a great case for Missouri St.

BONUS POINTER LU could sweeten the pot by offering an EXIT Fee if they were to leave. That is something that JMU can't and won't match

It seems a rational approach would be to vote Liberty in as we're ready. In 2-3 years when Missouri St is ready, then give Idaho the boot and everyone is happy, happy, happy.

Here's a thought:

If we don't get an invite from an FBS conference, have we thought about joining the Pioneer Football Conference and staying in Big South for non-football sports?

The PFL has schools from New York to California to Florida, so it's a national conference. Instead of having to travel to CSU and Presby, we would get to play schools like Dayton, and Jacksonville.

Again the conference has schools all over the country. We're basically a national brand, with our own T.V. network.

Am I the only one who sees potential there? (If we have to remain FCS, might as well make the best of it)

Yes.
I'm not sure the a Big South would keep us as a football only member. We aren't exactly high on their list. If they can screw us over they will
