Personally I don't think travel cost is the issue. I'm sure to get in the conference we would have agreed to offset those costs for a limited time. let's go a couple if things that posters continue to bring up as to why we haven't been invited.
FOOTPRINT: The SB is clamoring for JMU so that doesn't hold up.
WINNING: What has Indiana St won? What has GA St won?
TRAVEL: The SB invited Idaho and MNSU?

I can only logically come back to this being a political and philosophical issue. Teaching creation is a pseudoscience to the academic world. Having 70,000 online students and making money hand over fist is not looked at favorably either. My guess is this. Benson knows we are the most ready program to make the move. Bensons decisions are about athletics, not politics. I bet he recommended us and the presidents quickly shot it down.

I want FBS football as much as anyone, but not at a price that compromises who we are. If the SB doesn't want Liberty then let them have their Alabama States or Indiana States.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. we aren't getting an invite into FBS. I have a gut feeling its a mixture of Presidents not wanting us in because of what we stand for and the fact that our media market doesn't make people jump for joy. Its just something we have to deal with. I vote for focusing on getting in a better FCS conference where we can have more success at the level we are at. 2 of the best programs that would have stood in our way toward a national title just walked out the door. Go out and beat an NDSU and SHSU and get us a national championship. That should be the goal RIGHT NOW. (notice i said right now) and worry about FBS later on down the road. There will be other opportunities. CUSA isn't done yet and I have a feeling neither are the other big 5 conferences. just my .02

We may get an invite and we may not. We need to play it like we don't care, even though I think it's past time for that. We sound like we're desperate, and that's never a good thing.

Where would he go? Not that I don't like him or anything but his HC record isn't exactly stellar. He had a nice stint at Buffalo (a really tough school to win at), but even then he only had one winning record. If I were an AD, I would love to have Gill as my coach. However, I think if he is successful enough here for him to receive offers, Liberty will be favored to move up.

If he wins then he his name could possibly resurface in the list of jobs, but then that just kills LU be us they would most likely hv to start over again with another new coach. If gill leaves rest assured a lot of this staff goes with him. Nature of this business hired to b fired or leave for what's considered the next best opportunity. I honestly think 3-4 years that gives him time to get his win total up and more name recognition. If for chance LU is winning and gets the call up he is gonna command a lil bit more cheddar for himself and the staff, one by winning and two staff usually gets more money being FBS.

Badly is a strong word, consider us might be a better choice. I read somewhere last week that JB and C-USA recently spoke again. But then I'm sure he is talking to anyone who will listen. Also read somewhere that there might be a "big surprise" coming. Which could be anything. And then six months ago I attended a work shop in Charlotte for work and ran into a buddy of mine that played offensive line for ECU 1985'ish. He's an ECU donor and attends all the donor functions ..... I mentioned LU and the Sun Belt to him and told me he had heard our name mentioned in C-USA circles? So I guess I'm just hoping for a big C-USA surprise.

Which would presume that we are a more desirable to C-USA than JMU. ODU is pushing for JMU and its pretty apparent that JMU wants C-USA. If CUSA offered JMU, I don't think JMU would be dragging their feet like they are with the Sun Belt.

And that would be a pretty big presumption. It would be hard to imagine C-USA wanting a school that was rejected by the Sun Belt, but I guess it could happen.
