1) Atlanta isnt out of it. Sure theyre 6.5 back but the Phillies have been inconsistent as of late and the Mets still have the month of September to play(because we know what they do then). A hot August can put you guys in position to make it in.

2) Atlanta is much better than their record says. Braves fans should know ATL is 5-22 in one run games. 5-22! Obviously the point stands that they dont finish games, but to say the season is over? Cmon.

3) Their pitching is 3rd best in the NL. One trade before the deadline to get some hitting puts them in good position to make a run.

5) A Dark Day? No. This is not a dark day whatsoever. Dark days are the Expos sfter the strike. The Royals for the last 10 years. The Cubs when they lost 100 games. The Tigers when Mike Maroth was their starter. Any day that Armondo Benitez runs out to the mound hoping to record a save for you. This year is undoubtedly the only "great day to be a Ray." For ATL this is a rebuilding year at worst (not five), and one or two moves will make them a true contender come next season.

You are forgetting another team in this division that has the same amount of losses as the Mets and Phils. The Marlins are just as viable a contender as the other teams you mentioned. Their biggest weakness in the first half of the season was starting pitching, but they just got Josh Johnson back in the rotation (after missing the whole first half) and he has looked good in his first two starts back. Anibal Sanchez is coming off the DL by the end of the month, and Chris Volstad just got called up, and has been impressive so far (though we'll have to see how he survives a few more starts). The offense continues to bang out HRs and the front office has already said they'll go after a catcher (easily the weakest offensive link on the team) and possibly another reliever to shore up the 'pen. Yes, the Fish have some flaws, but so do the other teams in the division.
And being 6 games out in late July does not qualify as 'dark days'.

Yep I did actually. When I looked at the standings after that post I was like oh crap.
Either way, the hot team in September will take the division. Im going to really enjoy all the division games at the end of the year. And yes Braves fans, unfortunately that means you can still win the division.

Stop taking offense to everything and read. I was speaking of stereotypical Atlanta fans. The NLDS games were half-empty for three years in a row because it was normal and Atlanta fans didn't care.

I think I have mentioned this before, but I was at the 2003 NLDS game 5 (vs. my Cubs). I couldn't believe what was going on! The Braves' organization was handing out tickets in downtown Atlanta before the game. Handing them out. They didn't want the stadium to be full of Cubs fans in a deciding game. It didn't matter much anyway. I would say 40-50% of the stadium was wearing blue that night anyway. I know the Cubs hadn't been relevant in a long time, but when you have to give tickets away to get fans in the stands, there is a problem.

die-hard braves fan since i was a kid and yes when the braves went on that run it got tired to many braves fans since they could never get over the top, but there are many die-hard fans that are suffering right now. but make no mistake the ATL is not a great sports town...it never has and never will IMO.

I think if the Braves ever make it back in to contention, Turner Field will be rocking again. When they made it year after year and were expected to be bounced in the first round, nobody came. With a little taste of struggle, success will be enough to get the fans back in the seats again.

Angels first baseman Casey Kotchman was pulled off the field during pregame warm-ups this afternoon at Fenway Park. And there are strong indications he is about to be traded to the Braves for Mark Teixeira, according to a source with knowledge of those discussions. Details are still being finalized, and additional, lesser names are expected to be involved. But Kotchman for Teixeira is the core of this deal.

The latest: A second source with knowledge of these discussions says the Braves will get Kotchman, plus a second lesser name, for Teixeira in a 2-for-1 deal.
