Yeah, why can't WSET have weather people as "interesting" as Newschannel 10? Oh, that's right, they had Tracey Grau.

Knuckle will now shoot me.

While we're on the off-topic, WSLS weatherman Patrick McKee reminds me of Gomez Adams. Before he lost the weight, he looked just like Paul Bearer. You can find his picture and bio here.

Apparently, in his spare time, he eats a lot.

However, that weather guy Matt Ferguson at WSET is a real piece of work. I wouldn't care if he failed to notice a tornado warning and disappeared completely.
OK, I need to leave this thread, as I'm about to cross the line. Head explosion is 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 :frustrated
OH and by the way ALL, we just hired a new news director. Why didn't you all apply since you are vastly superior in TV knowledge?????

Now, I shall cease and desist from viewing this thread. Look for me at the new thread I'm about to begin: "Why I don't like anyone, except Libertine (wow that's scary)" :nono :nono

OK I lied. point well taken. I like Jerry Edwards as a person, he taught a class I took at LU Back in the day. Good dude. Not partial to his game calls recently! Sorry!

I couldn't care less what he does on TV. I don't watch TV news. It's completely obsolete to me. However, my personal interactions with him justify exactly what I said about him. I'd say it again, and more, on any forum on any website on the Internet. If you want to cross a line, cross it, but the guy crossed a line with me that we will not recover from.

P.S.: It's not likely that he would even remember it, which makes it all the worse. Class A jerkface.

I'm good with everyone else at every other TV station in Lynchburg. We could all get together and hug it out any time.

Scorchy,
no big deal with the specific comment. I might even agree with parts of the weather guy comments if forced to. What I meant is, everyone has an opinion and in my line of work they ALL want to tell you about it. We have never had an on-air talent that I didn't get an earful about. That's what pushes me over the line not your specific comment.

For the record, I have no personal issues Dennis Carter as a man since I don't know the guy ... at all. He may be the coolest guy on the planet for all I know (and I get that he must be by the respect some of you guys are paying him). And as a sports director in a medium market, he's adequate. Although I admit his 'casts come across as rather lazy when I catch them. But if I had been in a medium market station for a quarter century I would probably be coasting as well. I have coasted from time to time myself.

My sole bone of contention has to do with his calling games on Liberty's nickel on our air. He comes across as someone who has little to no knowledge of the home team (perhaps some more prep work could make a difference) and who really doesn't care about what he is doing.

As for Ray, he's not going to be replacing Al Michaels anytime soon. But he comes across prepared and caring about what is going on. I'll take the guy busting his tail over the guy who is showing up for an easy paycheck anytime. Perhaps I am 100% wrong about how seriously he takes these opportunities. But its just the way it comes across on the air.

No problem. It's just an isolated incident with a single person that was probably better left unsaid, in this case. In other cases, not so much. He deserves it.

I guess I missed it, but I'm guessing you are now a sports guy. Somehow, you are the 1st person who has ever given me any negative comments about Dennis. I have not had 1 other in 20 years in the 'burg and 17 years working here. Dennis is one of the most dedicated on air folks I have ever met. No one does more homework than he. He daily has to fit in tons of stuff into 2.5 min and does a good job with what he has.

On the pxp stuff. He does so few and sporadic LU basketball games it is difficult. Because he works here m-f LU doesn't get him on many bball games. so, when he fills in on 5 or 6 games (most Women's and a few men's)a year he has a huge chunk of info to digest. He is the hardest working spotts guy I know. He works on average 50 hours per week. During HS football it's more than that. In this case he is getting the entire slate of home Football games, and I guarantee he will be spot on!

Also, you say you are not attacking him personally, but I'd like to take issue with that.

Here is you from above:

Sounds pretty personal to me.

No knowledge of the home team - Are you kidding me. Covers LU constantly. Call him up now and ask him some LU trivia.
Doesn't care about what he is doing - This is where you keep killing me. He is extremely passionate about sports. He puts a ton of energy into it every day.
Easy paycheck - no way. DC is not at all about money and that can be proven easily. He just 100% loves sports.

I really would like to know how much you have really seen him. Sounds like you are basing these long range Texas missels on a very small body of work. If you'd like check out the videos on wset.com. There's even one there on the LU track team which he doesn't know anything about.

Knucklehead - I think if you look back at my posts you'll see I have gone to great pains to focus on his play by play work for FTN. I only see him sporadically when I am in Lynchburg on WSET. As I mentioned, I neither know the man nor am I familiar with his on air product on a daily basis. But I can assure you that my credentials are worthy of offering up some insight on the subject at hand.

This is far from personal. But I am rather passionate about the FTN telecasts since it is my link to the games that I cannot attend half of a continent away.

Ive been in this town since 99....even had Dennis speak in a few of my communications classes. Stood next to him during many interviews with Karcher, im sorry im not impressed either. So now you have 2 people in 20 years. I have not a bad word to say about him personally at all.....he just underwhelms me for a lot of reasons.
