a couple of thousand for surgery on a dog or a simple shotgun shell.....that decision is pretty simple.

I got my daughter a rabbit like around Easter time and about three days later it’s actin’ real sick and it’s just layin’ around and my wife goes, Gee, maybe we should take him to the vet. I said, Yeah, why don’t you just let me take him for a drive? I’m not gonna take a five dollar rabbit to the vet. ............So we’re at the vet…

^troof. A dog is a little bit different. I'd drop a good bit of money on my dog. My cat? Eh, there's a limit there. Anything lower in the animal kingdom than that can go take a hike in the woods if it gets sick.

yeah...when i have a dog, it will likely be trained to aid me in some way....something that a couple grand would me worth me to pay so i wouldnt' have to pay for and train another dog to do the same things...

My dog blew out both her knees, she is a menber of the family to me, so whatever it takes to make her well I am willing to pay.
My dogs would give their lives for me and I for them. I rescued these dogs when they were abandoned in public parks, highways, etc. An abandoned dog knows when it has been abandoned and return love like no other dogs.

Age would also have to be factored into that arguement based on your previous statements. If the dog gets sick at 12 years old, are you really going to spend that couple of grand......id bet not.

She is about ten years old, in good health except for her knees. She could be older then ten also as I rescued her in 1999.
She had a litter by then.

Any other questions?

my grandfather paid about 3 grand for his girl to get some sort of surgury. she was 13 yrs old. a champion pointer. she lived another 3 years. he said it was worth it as he never had another dog like her....the dog also cost him close to 4 grand.

You could probably have cloned the dog for 3 grand.

My worst childhood memory is when my WV uncle killed his old blind beagle by dropping a big rock on him.

Was that the goriest thing he could think of?

He tried to shoot the dog, but he couldn't bring himself to pull the trigger, so he used a big rock instead.

I would think pulling a trigger would be way easier. Unless he did it Rube Goldberg style.

When my grandfather's cat population started getting out of hand, he'd put them in a plastic bag tied to a brick and throw them in his pond.

That's littering (no pun). He could have just tossed them in the garbage and they would have died just the same.

funny story....

my brothers father in law is the head of maintenance for a local correctional facility.....well the guys working in the boileroom were decent guys i guess so he let them keep a few cats in there....well one day he was inspecting and he heard a noise....he looked down underneath a boiler and there were about a zillion little kittens....he said more than 30.....he told one guy to get in there and get them....so the guy laid on his stomach and started reaching and then handing them to my brothers father in law... after about handing 20 of them to him, he finally goes...."what are you doing with them?".... to which he was replied to with my brothers father in law showing him a bag of neck snapped kittens.....and the guy fainted....
