In regards to location- the press release said that it would be behind East Campus; the picture could have been the view from just below Liberty Village. If they used the Bald Spot, they would destroy a large part of the trail system that they've been working on for the last 8-9 months.

It's gonna be up in those mountains. I'm not sure which one exactly but one has a monogram and another has a radar tower. I think the bald spot is the only one left.

Here's a neat 3d picture that's on LU's site.

The location was on the LU site plan map we had posted a couple months ago. Too lazy to dig it up.

Anybody wonder about what this stuff looks like when it gets dirty? Maybe it doesn't get dirty since it's constantly being sprayed with water? but even then it's gotta go somewhere.

If that's the worst of it, that's not bad. It doesn't look great though. I wonder how easy it is to do a cleaning or how often it's done. This will present a lot of interesting challenges for whoever runs the snow park. Who's gonna be in charge of ops on this thing anyway? I nominate me. It's not like anybody in this country has any experience with it anyway. I'm just as qualified. Maybe even more so. I took operations with Garcia many years ago.

Probably just turn off the mist and pressure wash it.

I think this is a great idea...I just hope they put it on the backside of the mountain. I do not think it is especially eye catching to be where everybody can see it...which of course would be one of its leading marketing tools...so who knows?

Just somebody keep our athletes off this! We do not need any skiing ACL injuries!

The article from WSET shows a pic of Jr. on the bald spot. The caption says something like the slope will start here and go toward campus. Here comes another Lynchburg riot!

By the way, I really think they should send it down the back of the mtn. There is absolutely nothing back there until you get to camp hideaway.

It's going down the front of the mountain starting at the bald spot. The Liberty Snowflex site shows all of that.

I think there are a lot of trails where you are talking about, unless I'm thinking of a different place

There are a bunch of trails there, but there were also a bunch of trails where campus east and liberty village now sit. I'm glad I was there when there were still trees on the mountain. If you never got a chance to see those trails, you missed out. That was some great running!

Actually, the Snowflex site shows the course following the old road up to the Bald Spot and ending at the convergence of several of the trails, about 2/3s of the way back to the main road (directly towards the rear of East Campus). This won't be nearly as visible as it would if it were going down the mountain directly towards the Days Inn area. According to the map. very little will change with the current trail system.

I don't know that it's entirely accurate on that master plan. It doesn't really match what they show on the snowflex site.

you should check on the trails now. a ton of trails have been added in the last 2 years. and I'm not sure what your talking about "when there were still trees on the mountain", but over half the mountain is still trees. probably closer to 3/4, but I don't know the numbers. You shouldn't make blind statements without knowing what you are talking about.

That thing would take forever to pressure wash though, I'd hate to be the person(s) given that duty

Both plans show the Snowflex slope in the same area and laying in the same direction (along the old road down the Bald Spot), but hopefully for the "skiers" convenience, the lift portrayed on the master plan will be turned to start and end along the same line as the slope! I guess, when they were doing the plan, the powers that be decided that after skiing on the Snowflex, one should hike (sans skis) to the bottom of the lift after - heck, it would only take about 6-7 minutes!

The lift shown on the master plan is not the same lift that will serve the snowflex. The slope has it's own tow bar lift.
The lift on the plan will be used by mountain bikers to create a downhill only biking experience.

Jerry Falwell’s University To Launch Snowless Slope And Park
What do snowboarding and Jerry Falwell have in common? While this sounds like the intro to a joke that begs a punch line, the late televangelist and founder of the moral majority also founded Liberty University, which is building the nation’s first Snowflex, snowless slope and park.
