that is exactly why they did it....I remember when they pushed it back even further in the nba for a little while and realized it was too hard and pushed it back up to where it is now....it has everything to do with it being more challenging to make as pros

But like I said we disagree...everybody on this board is stubborn including myself....its not going to change anytime soon.....

But I want it to stay the same for completely different reasons. Do you just not like it where it is because it's the same as high school? Do you not like the mid-major upsets? Because our ability to hit that shot is the equalizer. If this change goes through, march madness is going to look similar to the women's tournament. As in "why not just skip the first 3 rounds".

It one foot...how many guys on our team shoot threes in games from at least a foot behind the line?? Every single one...I do not think its going to effect the game THAT much....I still believe that as you move up in basketball that a shot that is worth 3 points should be tougher...you gain more muscle as you grow older therefore making that shot easier to make....agree with me or not, that is my opinion

I do not believe it will kill march madness...its not the three point ball that gives mid majors their success, it simply out working the opposition that thinks they are going to coast through this game against some no name college

you also mentioned the clearing the lane theory for why the nba changed it...if that is the case then shouldn't they do that in the college game as well since players in D1 athletics are much bigger then most high school teams.....

so really both theories to why they would move it back work in justifying the move....

I don't know why i am taking the time to type...I guess because I have nothing better to do....you aren't changing your mind, which is cool, I don't expect you to...but this is just my point of view

IMHO the primary "equalizer" mid-majors have is not the 3, but the ability to retain players for 4 years so that you can have a TEAM with more experience and chemistry as opposed to the high major programs which are losing their best players after 1 or 2 years. The bigs are going to have most of the best shooters, just as they have the biggest and best athletes. I like the idea of going to the international distance across the board for all amatuer BB, women included.

I would have to agree...I hadn't thought about that side of things, and its true...all these major schools have people staying 2 years, 3 at the most...most mid-majors don't have to worry about that kind of a thing....so yes I agree....they also play with more hunger sometimes then the big boys do

Flame dad, I meant to cite the changes in the crease and the equipment goalies are allowed to wear. The net has remained the same...The 3 pointer and the shot clock are thought to be the reason College basketball is where it is today. Not sure if the 3 is the great equalizer as it once was because everyone shoots a ton of them now even the big time schools. Moving it a foot out does make a difference. The shot is not as easy you guys are saying because great shooters shoot 35-45% from the 3 line. most shoot around 30% or less. The reason you would move it is not to make the shot harder but to make defenses come out further to guard the shooters which would create space in the paint for the big men to operate....The NBA line was never moved back. It was moved forward then moved back to the 23'9'' that it is today. My whole point was that there is no need to change the game because it is great right now. Changes come when something needs to be done to improve the game. The shot clock was put in because the 85 Villanova Wildcats (Go Philly), beat a clearly superior team in Georgetown by milking 3-4 minute possessions and shortening the game. Dean Smith would hold the ball for the last 10 minutes of games back in the 70's and early 80's with his famous 4 corners. The Dunk was outlawed in college for years because of guys like Walton and Abdul-Jabbar being so unstoppable they had to make a rule to even the playing field. Zone defenses are allowed in the NBA because Shaq was so dominant that guarding him MTM was virtually impossible so teams would try to put a player in front of and in back of him when he didn't have the ball which used to be an illegal defense. There are reasons for these changes. I see no reason to move the college 3.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the conversation and is the main reason people think Carolina fans are pompous jack...donkeys.

I met a UNC fan the other day that just reinforced that....he said something about JJ redick...and I am like, "you still hate him, huh?"....then he went on and on about why he sucks and why Duke fans like me tick him off....and I am like, "whoa, whoa, whoa, I hate Duke just as much as I hate UNC....but JJ is on the Magic now and that is all that matters"

he then went on to say JJ will suck in the pros and blah blah blah

I just was like dude he is a good shooter, runs off of screens pretty well...he won't be a superstar, but he won't be terrible

he then said I was an idiot and said i didn't know anything about basketball....let me remind you i had just met this kid....I then proceeded to ignore him for the rest of my time at IHOP....
