Normally in a transition play the player handling the ball should get a good feel of the play ahead of him as he enters the frontcourt. That would include, 3 v. 2 , 2 v.2 2 v. 3., etc. Another huge one I think the players should be aware of is how many fouls the oposing players have. If there is a defender back who has 2 fouls in the 1st half, the more reason to attack that defender (at the least) or pass it to the side where the defender is if the offense has "the numbers". To simply drive wecklessly at an even up or not with numbers is a testament to how smart a player or team is. If this is the case, that is something the staff should stress to players.
