That’s a good explanation

By all indications the Hokies were working him hard up to the end. He's a playmaker. The NFL is full of shorter guys who can cover with their speed and instincts. I am exceptionally jazzed! The fatalism of the past is going to be tough to shake. But we are in a new era now.

Here's another thought, what if Hugh Freeze is just that good of a recruiter and enticed the young man to think about or pray about coming to Liberty. Sometimes it can be easy to say wow this seems fishy when reality is simply this: Tavion chose LU because he thought it was the best fit for him. He chose LU over Maryland and VA Tech because he truly wanted to be there then those two schools. Let us enjoy this great effort and success by our coaching staff and leave the skepticism aside :D

Those are the questions that intrigue me the most.

There's something that caused a four star kid to change his mind on two different schools and then choose not to sign early. I'm not saying it has to be anything bad. It may be a great reason. I'm just interested in what it is.
The commitment to VT came when he was a Sophomore in HS. No way of knowing whether he changed his mind or they did. Either way, it's not at all unusual for commitments that come that early not to pan out. Maryland was a mess, and they changed coaches. Can you blame him for holding off?

As to why Liberty? I could go with the Katie Feenstra line, but I'll give an answer.

Hugh Freeze
Playing time
Campus/facilities/Christian environment

If he isn't eligible, it certainly didn't scare off Maryland. I don't believe there is an issue with that.
In my opinion Maryland and "academics" should never be used in same sentence, when related to athletics. Sort of like Louisville.

Choosing not to be naive is not the same as fatalism.

We need Katie's line, too, for the new people on the board. She said this after she took the LU women's BB team to the Sweet Sixteen:

"Why not Liberty?"

And all these years later--after playing in the WNBA, being a head coach in college, getting married and having kids--Katie is back on the Liberty campus, teaching at LCA teaching now.

So what you’re saying is, she’s teaching :D

In all my questioning, I maintained there could be a great reason. I just wanted to know the reason before I got excited.

Hmmm. He signed some time ago. Did he turn in his papers?
Very other athlete so far has passed compliance quickly and been posted on ASOR.

this one seems to be taking abnormally long, if he turned in his paperwork.

I suspect the time stamp on that tweet is off for some reason. Hard to believe they had a signing ceremony at 5 in the morning.

Maybe he’s an early riser?

Top 50 high school football recruits in South Hampton Roads

"Land, who transferred back to Ocean Lakes from Bishop Sullivan Catholic, is a three-star prospect rated the No. 7 player in Virginia by Rivals and No. 10 by 247Sports and ESPN. He also was first-team All-Tidewater and went more than 350 snaps in man-to-man coverage without allowing a defensive touchdown. College coaches love his “instinct” on the ball and “toughness.” They also like his confidence - he’s unafraid to cover bigger receivers and welcomes the challenge. “He might not be the biggest and may not be the fastest but he just makes plays,” said one college coach. “If you wanted someone to cover the opposing team’s top receiver all game, it would be Land,” another said. “He’s instinctive, has good technique and looks like he knows what he’s doing.”

Yippee 4 star recruit
But I’ve put my finger on what makes me scratch my head
“After much doubt and oversight”
“Accept me for me”
Those two phrases just seem odd. Like there is a story there I’m just curious by nature and would like to know the story. Also recruiting is an ego driven endeavor so it would be interesting to see what went on behind the scenes to make him feel no one else’s was accepting “him for him”
But he is here so go hit somebody. On the field of course

I don’t understand what or who I’m reading
Apologies. He posted this to Land about 10 minutes before I posted this. I have a hard time thinking "I heard what happened" is a good thing.
The 3 years thing is baffling

Yes, yes it is

These kids are playing for free. Yes they get an education, but 3 years is the NFL requirement, so they set their eyes on the NFL, to FINALLY get paid for the product they produce. I will tell you all, if I were a talented athlete, playing your senior season is an unnecessary risk that could cost millions. I will not fault any of these young men for saying 3 three and out.
