If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

As far as race goes, I don't think it's coincidental that the demographic the NBA performs poorest in among sports fans is white males 30+.
you bring up jordan/ewing/dream but you can thank that era for the reason why individuality is so focused by sports media...

You are entitled to your opinion, its true, but when you start saying things about it not being about team or they don't care about defense or because they are black you can't relate to them or any of those things I don't think I am out of line to say you are down right wrong about those things.

If you don't have a team you follow or like thats cool, but the reasons you gave for saying the college game is better is simply inaccurate. I watch a ton of basketball whether its the nba or college and on both levels there is plenty of individualisms, but it is when those individuals learn how to play with their teammates that make the great teams great.

sorry the "dream team era" was littered with more "1 on 1" type offenses than there are today. also scoring in the late 80's/early 90's was higher than it is today...you certainly are entitled to your view as well just know that its incorrect

if its all about the individual then how did the magic win tonight without 4 players?? they are a good team that plays well as a TEAM much like most of the good teams in the nba do...

No worries, I will continue to miss out, and you can continue to be baffled why college basketball is so much more popular than the NBA.
That is not why I am baffled, I am baffled at the thought that people honestly believe that there are more fundamentally sound, team oriented, defensive teams at the college level. I am also baffled by the notion that because there are not enough white players to relate you can't watch. Why that is even a reason to decide to like a sport is way, way beyond me and makes me realize the 1960's were not so long ago. I am fine with if people don't watch the nba. They don't have a team they grew up cheering for or whatever the case, but there is no way anybody with true knowledge of basketball can say the nba of today lacks what you say it lacks and its nice to finally see some people on here that see that.

If that's the case, then why is the NFL the most popular league, by far, in the country? Other than quarterback, the majority of the major players in the NFL are all black. Middle aged white guys can relate to black guys on the football field but not on the basketball court?

Basketball is a game that unites even more across the country. It's the cheapest game to play other than soccer. Every kid grows up playing some sort of basketball if only in gym class. What you're saying is that there's some disconnect that when a guy graduates from college he automatically stops relating to and cheering for the athletic black basketball player he cheered for in college.

I just don't see how middle aged white guys will come to college games in droves, give tons of money to college athletics, support black players in college basketball, and then the second they graduate, because they're black, not be able to connect with them anymore. I think that's just ridiculous.

well the rich white guys are out to nba games in huge numbers so I am just not sure where you are getting this thought process from. Ratings show the nba being more popular then college basketball anyways a quick ratings search and comparing them will show you that so even that mind set is wrong.

I am not trying to put words into your mouth, but when it comes to popular sport figures in America a good chunk of them are black athletes and it seems to be just fine.

I am not trying to talk you into liking the nba, because some people just like the pureness of college sports more then pro sports. Which I totally understand, but the fundementals, the team work, the great defense, its all there in the nba so to me all thats left is this race thing and if that is honestly a reason for people not following the nba there is absolutely no way to justify it. You can call it Socio-economics all you want, but its wrong.

ps. Tennis isn't popular in America anymore because nobody grows up playing it and its freaking boring...haha

other than the numbers it can't be proven?? ahahhahahahah other than the fact that scoring was higher and there were just as many isolation players as their were today....its unprovable....but yeah you are right...i'm the idiot.

defense is easier in college. because the players just not as good as the nba players obviously. defense is easier than offense. which is why when you see guy in college who belongs in the nba, he generally just dominates. but the defense and fundamental arguements are hilarious. last years tournament had teams falling all over the place, turnovers were everywhere.

i enjoy both games, i can understand where the preciseness (sp or is it even a word) of the nba game would not be appealing to some.

The word you wanted was precision.

I think the NBA gets a bad rap when it comes to fundamentals and defense. Look at free throw shooting. NBA percentages are like 8% higher than NCAA. A lot of talented scorers in college can't make it in the league because they can't cut it defensively.

an example of a player that had to learn that and took him a while to learn that is JJ Redick. He made scoring look so easy in college but wasn't a very strong defensive player, he gets to the nba where the play is so much faster, the defenses are more aggressive and he struggled. On top of that he was not a good defender..now he has adjusted his game, gotten bigger, and is much better defensive player then people realize. If the nba lacked the things some people say it does then players like JJ would have absolutely no problem coming into the nba.
