What would sitting him do vs playing him? If they find that he is ineligible, they'll vacate all of the wins where he played anyway. My plan: play him until the BCS championship giving tons of PT to his backup as well and then sit him in the final game. Let's see you vacate that championship!

Future punishment increases. That's really it though.

i don't care how much PT the backup is getting. No way he starts the BCS championship game and wins it... just not possible... Cam is the reason they win and their offense does well... without him they are back to a middle of the pack SEC team

Check this out, very detailed account of how this crap at Auburn has been going down for 20 some years. It is a message board, after all, but there is a lot of sourcing and I checked out some of the sources to cross reference what was being said and it all checked out. Not sure how much of this is true, but even if 10% of it is then Auburn is going down hard.

To sum it up: misappropriation of federal funds, various ways of a calculated program of "pay for play", athletic department controlling and corrupting the Auburn board of Trustees, Auburn likely to lose their SACS accreditation = expulsion from SEC, Auburn will make what happened to SMU look like child's play.

the dirtiest in all of college football?? not saying they aren't dirty, but there is dirty crap that goes on in all of major college football, especially in the SEC

Auburn just might be one of the dumbest...they should ask how these other schools get away with it...because there is a lot of sketchy going ons in the SEC especially

I hope this comes back to bite the NCAA in the butt...and I love college athletics more than most people. They take MONTHS to investigate/rule on UNC for less serious issues, yet they decide on Auburn this fast?
"Did the NCAA just open Pandora's box? If a kid doesn't know he's being shopped, he won't be accountable. Green light to parents to solicit?"

"NCAA says Cam Newton was shopped, but since he didn't know it's no big deal. Wow. That's a heck of a precedent."
So let me get this straight:

OK by the NCAA:
1. Get charged with a felony (burglary), be kicked off your team, transfer, be allowed to play immediately - Masoli
2. Have your father act like an agent and request boosters pay for his son to attend their university - Newton

Not OK by the NCAA:
1. Have a former teammate, a friend, treat you to a good time at his house. (UNC)
2. Have some help on a college paper. (UNC)

This article goes into more detail about what the NCAA found:

I think this has more to do with the national championship game & wanting to keep TCU (playoff arguments) out of the picture.

Newton went to Florida at the beginning of his career. He was kicked off the team at Florida for stealing or selling stolen lap tops..I'm not sure which. Then he transfered to a JuCo in Texas before transfering to Auburn.

Well aware of what Newton did. Read that I was referring to Masoli. Different player.

Newton didn't steal a laptop or sell one at Florida. What he did was buy a laptop which he almost certainly knew was stolen. He then obstructed justice by throwing it out the window when investigators came to his house. Not very bright, but not exactly henious.

If I am not mistaken Masoli was kicked off Oregon's football team, not dismissed from the school. He already had his BS degree(graduated) and was able to transfer to Ole Miss for graduate degree in field that Oregon did not offer.

If this is a problem with the NCAA then I know a number of current and former LU football players who could be investigated. Big difference between writing the paper for someone and providing help on a paper.

Sorry, kicked off his team, not dismissed from school. However, it sounds to me that violate the spirit of the rule the NCAA had in place.
Three days ago, the NCAA ruled that the former Oregon quarterback had to sit out a season after enrolling at Mississippi. But the university appealed that decision and announced Friday that the NCAA Division I Subcommittee for Legislative Relief had overturned the first ruling.

The NCAA will often waive a one-year residency requirement for athletes who enter a graduate program not offered at the previous school but initially didn't clear Masoli because "the waiver exists to provide relief to student-athletes who transfer for academic reasons to pursue graduate studies, not to avoid disciplinary measures at the previous university."

Wouldnt this be a sign of collusion though? (the bolded part)

You could never prove it. Everyone knows that the big money team is Auburn (SEC) so why not clear Cam to play in the Title game, then once he gets drafted go ahead and make him return the Heisman and vacate the National Championship (if Auburn wins)...

sounds about the same as the Reggie Bush situation

Devon Ramsey says hello.
She said help from a tutor on one written assignment constituted Ramsay's only involvement in the NCAA's investigation of academic misconduct and improper benefits provided by agents and others at UNC.

Lee said her son and UNC officials have told her that UNC's own academic honor system didn't consider Ramsay's issue serious enough to send to the student-run honor court for possible sanctions.
Don't get me wrong, I have NO PROBLEM with the NCAA punishing those that should be punished. I'm just baffled at the amount of time put into the UNC investigation vs. the Auburn investigation.
