He has been relatively healthy so far in his career I agree. Just saying I hope that continues, otherwise we may be in some trouble. As for his arm. We've seen him play in a somewhat limited format, but full time is a different beast, and I'm interested to see if his arm is good enough, enough of the time, to beat the defence and hit the receiver in the hands. Defences will be expecting him this year, and that is not to be taken lightly. If they can contain his escapability, does he have the arm to get it done? Can his arm make up for an otherwise poor decision on the run, as happens to all QB's at some point? I take consolation in the fact though that if Tyrod Taylor can throw up terrible balls all the time and VTech can still win games, I figure we can too. I think MB will be fine, but until we actually start the season, and until we need a game winning drive, the jury is still out. That's what seperates the good from the great. The season, and then when the season comes down to one drive.

I think making any comparisons with Beecher is unfair...to Tommy. He wasn't mobile, his injuries had clearly caught up with him, the concussions made him justafiably tenative at times, and his arm was above average at best.

Return game is sort of question mark in my mind, with Brown being the QB.

It also remains to be seen if we actually have a good receiving corps or not. After a strong season last year, I'm hoping Summers has permanently lost his teflon gloves from a couple years ago. But is there anyone else after him?

Oh, and the dirty "S" word; our Secondary. Hopefully I won't have to cover my eyes every time the opposing quaterback throws up the ball, or a running back breaks into the secondary this year. I think we have adderessed the issue, but we'll see.

Best part though, is that there are no glaring weaknesses or injury concerns currently. I think we will be tops in the BSC again this year if we can stay healthy and the secondary is improved. Then it's on to the FCS tourney.
Wow man. Negative Nancy much?

Mike Brown will be a Peyton Award candidate before this season is over, and will be a legit candidate to win it next year. At QB.

I know we haven't seen much of Tyler Brennan, but the coaching staff has said he would start for any other Big South team. By the time conference play rolls around he will have plenty of experience after facing JMU and Ball State, and getting significant time against RMU, St Francis, and Savannah State. If, God forbid, MB is lost that won't hinder us from being able to win the conference crown. It would/could only cost us come playoff time.

Return game was a question mark going into last season. Kickoff return will be fine with Broggin and ____. Danny was very solid at the end of last year. Punt return will be fine with Eden (once he's back) and Garner/Fogg.

Chris Summers is said to be an ALl-American candidate this year. Remember how good BJ Hayes was 2 years ago as a receiver? He will fill in amicably at MB's position from last year. Also, Garner/Eden is a very solid 3rd receiver. Add in Shaver and we have several threats in the receiving game.

Rocco said our secondary is the best, fastest, and has the most depth its had since he's been here. I expect our secondary to be the tops in the conference the next 2 years.

From everyone that I've talked to, it was a botched surgery. The doctor messed up. Unfortunately Jimmy's back in the hospital today with complications. He's a strong kid and will fight through it but I hate it for him.

I heard the same SJ. And I also heard that the surgeon was fired. I really hope Jimmy gets better soon. Definitely lifting both him and his family up in prayer right now.

#Pray for Jimmy Eden today. BIG surgery going on at UVA.
Ya, Eden's fb status was talking about how an ambulance is transporting him there, and how it will be a pretty big surgery. He's been in the hospital for the past two days. Definitely keep up the prayers big tim for him.

I'm not really seeing it, especially when I end my post with "we will win the BSC and go to the FCS tournament". Legitiment concerns aren't negative, they're realistic. Sometimes I think this board can't handle a healthy level of skepticism/concern/questioning...somehow it's viewed as divisive. I like to mix my breathless anticipation for what could be a HUGE year for LU football, with a healthty dose of legitiment skepticism, it helps keep things in perspective. There needs to be a better balance on these boards. Anyone can list all the positives and be right, but that doesn't necessarily make other points of view invalid, or negative. I want to see LU do well in all areas, but don't expect me to down the kool-aid with a smile on my face any time soon.

I was talking arm strength. Tommy was able to make all the throws and Brown probably has more arm than he did.

I'm not worried about him.

I'm fine with concerns. We have concerns. Every team in their mother has concerns.

Some of your points I don't see as concerns though.

The main concerns I see are the OL and long snapper position. Outside of Vargas, Stadler, and Wendland we have close to ZERO experience on the OL.

Based on my observation of the teams performance I agree with JC on this one. The O-Line has been a concern for the last 2 years and will this year as well. You don't see it when we play weak BSC competition but you see it when we play James Madison, Laffy, West Virginia, and other teams that are more talented. It was clearly evident when we played JMU in the rain (I was there).

Skill position wise (QB, RB, WR) I think that we are fine. I think that Mike Brown is the kind of QB the coach is looking for and will fit in his system better than the last 2. He has a more than adequate arm to throw the deep ball and is very illusive. We should see big improvments in the Defense this year as well.

I dunno which was worse that game, the O-line, or the fact that our defense couldn't make a tackle in the fourth quarter? They ran all over us there at the end.

Yep and hopefully our adjustments with the defensive formation will change that.

Not to make excuses but... if the only game we lose all year is because a monsoon decides to come through and poor like 2 feet of water on the field I’m ok with that. The rain at that game was ridiculous. It was kinda a freak event.

A lot of questions hovering around Gabe Henderson and whether or not he'll redshirt. Stopped by practice today and saw him running on the 1st and 2nd team offense spread out wide, and for good reason.

With Eden in and out of the hospital and with Curry not available this year I think that would make sense to get a playmaker like Henderson on the field

Not sure why I said transfer. Definitely meant to type redshirt. My bad.

If he's that good I guess you gotta get him on the field, but I'd hate to burn a year on the kid so he can be our 3rd/4th WR.

I was talking to a friend of mine about this the other day. One possible idea is that with Eden and Curry out, you burn the shirt this year, then redshirt him next year with both of those guys back. No one ever said the redshirt has to be in the freshman year.

Good point. Even with those 2 guys out though he’s still behind Summers, Hayes, and probably Garner. Is that worth burning the year? I don’t know.

I guess you’d compare it to how much time he would get next year when he’d be battling all the guys mentioned above and Curry and Eden.

Is this considered Curry's Redshirt year?

This is not considered his redshirt year. He'll have five years from the time he steps foot on campus and enrolls in class.

Sweet

So we could redshirt Gabe this year, and Curry next.

I don't know how to approach it, but I trust Rocco.
