Honestly having conference champions in the first 4 is really good for those smaller conferences. Instead of two 16 seeds getting their butts kick in the first round of the tournament and never getting to play in multiple games, one of those bad teams get a guaranteed win which equals $$$. Last year's tournament paid out $1.68 million per game so the 16 seed that wins the play in game earns there conference double the money they would normally get. I think all 16 seeds should get a play in game for this reason.

That does make sense, but it's always appeared to me, that conference champions who have to play in first 4, get shafted, whereas a non conference champion gets rewarded.

Boston University has publicly stated they’re considering postponing their fall semester. I highly doubt they’re the only ones. If that becomes widespread, football (and college sports in general) becomes much less likely to happen.

The thing about truth is, it doesn’t give a darn about our feelings.

Every low-major conference champ in the First 4 absolutely WANTS that. It doesn’t matter how it appears to you. You are flat-out wrong.

A win = DOUBLE THE MONEY!!!!! Paid out every year for the next seven years. And that payout is divided (usually evenly) among all conference members — which should appeal to your socialist proclivities.

I ouwld have considered this idea preposterous a couple of weeks ago but ....

I know some have dismissed his comments the past few days but I honestly believe there is legitimacy. The axeing of the XFL frees up a few college stadiums that would otherwise have leases. I could see a spring season particualrly in light of the fact that universities and the NCAA itself is going to be under intense scrutiny to maintain football revenues. TV helps slow the bleeding but that stadium/suits gate is huge for the P5s. This has legs.

I don't believe there is any legitimacy to that. A friend of mine is on staff at a P5 school who's AD would be on the committee talking about that and they didn't have a clue what Fowler was talking about when he put that out.

I work with some of the vendors who would be crucial to this working and they want their revenue. I expect to see a bunch of wacky ideas floated in the coming weeks. I don't think Fowler puts this out there without legitimate reasons even if it just an idea being discussed. Remember where he gets his paychecks. Disney is hemorrhaging money on nearly every front.

Trying to picture the effect a Spring football season would have on baseball/softball and other Spring sports. If they could coordinate schedules they might be able to get some of the football crowd to their games and could actually benefit.

Which Spring are we talking about ? Playing 2020 season in spring of 2021. Then starting 2021 season in August as normal ?

It would help softball and baseball attendance if football was being played on same weekend.

Everything is hypothetical at this stage. But the ideas I am seeing floated would have a truncated football season in Spring 2021 and hopefully go back to another truncated football season in fall of 2021 Under these suggestions there would be no non-conference games except for a mini-playoff in both seasons.

Is any of this likely? Probably not. But it is very possible as the fear and budget paralysis is beginning to hit university presidents & ADs exceptionally hard right now.

I am hoping that because states all over the country are beginning phase 1 of re-opening their economies(or whatever we want to call it) this week and weekend that it will go well to give us a normal college football season.

I know this is not the non-athletic covid thread but Im having a very hard time believing this thing wasn't blown out of proportion in some way shape or form.

Here's a thought:

If the NCAA were to allow for football to happen in the fall with no cancellations or changes to the schedule then what if some presidents like the University of Arizona president (who seems to think there will be no football this fall) decided to cancel the football season at their school. What would the NCAA do in that case? Would they still allow for games to be played if lets say a dozen schools cancelled their season per university presidents request?

Why punish the rest of college football if a dozen want to cancel their seasons.

As a N.J resident, I think it's highly probable that Rutgers will have no season. After all, we are under "Murphy Law".

I susect those who are caught without an opponent for certain weeks would then band together to play each other. We have seen this done regularly due to hurricane cancellations.

Syracause's AD, John Wildhack, told ESPN that the ACC has not had any discussions about cancelling the season. He stated the ACC schools want to play. He wouldn't rule out a delayed start or playing without fans, and he wouldn't make any speculations when he was asked out what the UAZ President said.

So many unknowns. With Trump puntting to the states, he has inserted a lot more volatility into the equation. For instance, your school and league many want to play but several states involved in your footprint decide to shut down at last minute. How do you adapt or plan for that?
