1) Still no Word I am aware of on Sims finding a landing spot.

2) We may have an open scholarship for a QB, as Cory Benedetto is not on the fall roster.

Definitively no. The inferrence could be made Im sure but not many on here (except for our friends at Flames Nation and our resident prodigal scribe) have information that would indicate for sure or not if he was on scholarship

And I will repeat what I posted in another thread as well BJ. Players sitting out under transfer rules have the same status as any other redshirt in that they are an active part of the team, participating in practices, workouts, meetings and all other team activities. They basically do everything BUT participate in games, and they normally ARE listed on the roster.

Normally this is true. Course we dont know the backstory as to why he isnt on the roster. It would seem rather silly I think to go through the process of transferring, playing all the way through spring practice at your new school, then leave and go to another school knowing that you will have to sit out the fall wherever you end up (unless its a D2 or lower). Let's see, as I said, what Flames Nation or our resident scribe can find out as they would be privy to more information than the average lay person on this message board

Benedetto is no longer enrolled, and will be transferring per FlamesNation Tweet. My guess is he got a reality check when he arrived and realized he was not likely to play much if at all at LU. Look for him under center for a D2 or NAIA team near you.

I put it here because Benedetto leaving theoretically creates an opening for Sims. I really don´t think he is very good. Keep in mind, he was redshirted on a VERY bad Campbell team last year. My guess (and that´s all it is) is that it was evident this Spring we have an established starter in Woodrum and a backup in Shashaty who are both better than him. Then when Masha arrived this summer and Cory saw him play, and then got the Word about Ervin committing for 14, he probably decided he was better off elsewhere.

Sounds about right, to me. Now the question becomes since this QB left does that now open up another spot at QB for another person to come in. It apparent they planned on having 5 QB's on the roster in '14, is that still a possibility or just staying with the four(including Ervin in '14)

As far as scholarship QBs that is an interesting question. You will have Woodrum, Shashaty, Masha and Ervin (who from the sound of things is a solid commit), plus invited walkon Swanson. With the Sims situation, if he transfers here, that probably closes the book on the QB position for 2014. Based on a cursory glance of the roster, our top 5 needs for 2014 are WR, RB (pending the AA situation), OL, DL and probably DB or LB (with punter following those two), so QB isn't the most pressing of needs until I think 2016 at the earliest barring serious injury.

According to a story on the Virginian-Pilot (my hometown fishwrap), you can close the book on Sims coming here:

Sims said on the D-I level, he's only considering Football Bowl Subdivision schools. He would have only one year to play in either FBS or the Football Championship Subdivision, so there would be no advantage to playing in the lower classification.

"It's either go for it all in Division I, or take a step back and go Division II," he said.

By going to a D2 school he gets an extra year to peddle his wares to NFL scouts. That's just how I look at what he said though so take it with a grain of salt.

WRONG
D2 means D2. It´s not complicated. He is considering it because it would allow him to play the next 2 years. Going to either an FBS or FCS program would not. If he is going to stay in D1 and play only one more year, I agree that FBS makes more sense than FCS.
