Here is the place for all other LU sponsored sports. Come here to post about: Men's/Women's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Men's/Women's Soccer, Men's/Women's Tennis, Men's/Women's Track & Field, Women's Lacrosse, Women's Swimming & Dive, Women's Volleyball
Looking at the shows the last few years I think we really are improving the musical variety of the shows and I think the crowd is really getting into it too. Maybe we can get another good turnout of band alums this fall to check out the show

Just thought Id take a moment here and also congratulate the 2007 marching band section leaders (I don't know all of them but the one's I do not know I will add when I find them out:
Trumpet: Julie Gagne and Ryan Renauro
Trombone: Jason Cobb
Flute: Brittany Frable
Clarinet: Megan Claar
Mellophone: Stan Barringer
Baritone: Mark Munger
Saxophone: Braden and Jarrett Eriksen
Battery Percussion (Snare, Bass and Tenor Drums): Tyler Loftin
Front Ensemble Percussion: Tommy Book
Field Crew (managers): Rachel Rosbrugh
Color Guard: Mary Peebles
These are the student leaders of the band for next year. All of them are underclassmen so I think the future of the band is looking very very bright (especially with good classes of musicians coming in the last few years)

Well the band schedule for 07 is coming together and from the looks of things we will only be traveling one time this season. Right now its tentatively set for the weekend AFTER the Toledo game, but Im hoping to go to Toledo and support the football team (not to mention I have some friends that used to be in the band at LU that live in Ohio and they said they would come to the game if the band showed up)

Hey for those of you in teh Lynchburg area, on July 10th DCI will be making its annual stop in Salem, VA. Stephon Mernick, a former LU band member, will be performing as a member of the Madison Scouts at that event.

Since we're talking DCI. I believe championships are on Aug 9th. And if you don't have the ability to be there, they are showing it live at a the movie theatre on Riverside drive in Danville, VA. I think it costs $18 to get in, for those who are interested. There are only something like 110 theatres that have rights to show the finals, and Danville is one of them.
I cannot go since our church association has something planned for that day...but I did order the mid-season DVD, and can't wait to see/hear it.
I would also still love a copy of Liberty's field show last year if anyone has it.
I have an extra copy of the CD from last year but I don't think there are DVDs of the performance (I think the plan was to tape for the DVD during the USSBA competition that was rained out), I can get it to ya at the FF tailgate for the season opener if you are there JFF.

I mentioned the title in this post:
Alright boys, in 2007 the Liberty University Marching Band will take the audience on a musical trip around the world (after taking them on a musical trip across America with Made in America in 2005). The show is entitled, "Rhythms of the World" and features the tunes:
Malaguena (Spain)
Riverdance (Ireland)
Russian Sailor Song (Russia obviously)
Ballet and Brass (USA)
Africa (hit song for the band Toto) (Africa obviously)

I thought Id put this in here since this bit of news involves members of the marching band:
Congratulations to Tony Williams and Susan Ward! Tony asked Susan to be his wife last night at a party attended by some members of the band as well as relatives of the two of them. No date has been set as of yet (since it really hasn't sunk in for Susan that she is engaged yet)

Hey, same problems as last week. Rarely ever played and looked like the Coastal band. The one kid with a trumpet in the middle of the student section did a better job than they did.

That was a great moment on your video clip on the LOAL site. Back when I was a kid and used to go to ODU soccer games, it was some of the fan's who provided the most entertaining and loud fanfare of the night.
(There used to be a contingent of Jamaican students who used to bring an assortment of pots and pans and created a raucous cheering section. They actually sounded pretty good with the makeshift percussive instruments; rivaled a good high school drumline. Fun times, indeed.)
Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.--John Quincy Adams
This whole, "They don't play enough" could easily be fixed by the drumline learning some cadences. My high school band had 3-4-5 cadences we played in the stands just to have some music.
Im working with the percussion instructor on one I have been working on the last year or so. I know we had one from my first year in teh band that I think would be kinda cool to bring back as well. that should give us 4 if we go with that.
