I have to add one important thing. Our defense is sensational! 10 points per game in college football is amazing. WM is only the second team to break 10 points on us the other being Wake. E. L Estes' interception in the endzone was a tough play that he made look easy. There are other positives on that side of the ball. If you can play defense the way this team has played all year, you are gonna win a lot of games. I think it is easy to focus on the kicking and the passing but that defense gives you a chance to win every time you take the field.

you are very right SCAR our defense is great, they made plays when they needed to make plays. They made the William and Mary passing game look terrible (which from everything I have read, there passing game is pretty decent). Our defense has been fairly consistent over the course of the season....We are 3-3 and I think that its time to look foward. We have all said all we can say about this loss...it sucked losing the way we did, but maybe this team will come together because of this. I know Coach Rocco has this team going in the right direction...we are a much improved team from last season, and what people need to remember is that this team is fairly young....with some added depth in the off season this team could be very tough come next season....A coach can not turn a team around overnight...especially in college football where you need to wait 2 or 3 seasons to see this coach's recruting classes come together....Coach Rocco is a very solid coach, and I know he will have these guys focused and ready come next week...I am discouraged, but still looking foward to next weeks game

SCAR - great points. We are a 3-3 team right now. Quite frankly given the state of the program in 05 - I'll take it. Furthermore, we are a competitive 3-3 team right now. This thing is a journey. The Rocco era is one recruiting class and 6 games old. If we show the same amount of progress in 07 - we're going to be dangerous.

TO echo the post above - this team is still very young. Let's go out and get a conference win this weekend. That would be another step in the right direction as compared to 05.

I too think we're a decent team. Hopefully we'll get our first conference win over GW. Then we'll have already won an 1-AA game on the road and at home (if that happens). When's was the last time we already had a road and home win 7 games into the season (I think it's been over 3 or 4 years!)...

I also think the passing game is not that bad. Brock made some throws when he had to. One time, they took Terrell out and put Brock in for a 3rd down, and he completed the pass over the middle.

The short and medium range passing game was OK. Could we say that last year? The only major problem with the passing game is the deep balls...and some of those balls were close...did anyone notice how much W&M first QB was overtrowing people....he threw some 5 yards out of bounds...most of W&M's passing yards came on 1 long ball.

I agree with Scar's points. Well said. I do have to ask, however, if the coach addressed his decision to kick the extra point on the second TD and go up by 6 points. We were already up by 5 points and 1 extra point seemed worthless at the time and certainly at the end of the game. I think last year's team lost faith in a coach that made poor decisions. Just hoping we do not have another Ground Hog type movie.

I agree with all of the comments made concerning our defense. I don't think that you could ask for too much more from that group. They have exceeded our expectations, no doubt. The only negative that I see is the lack of forcing turnovers and some breakdowns in pass coverage but overall they are a very solid group.

There are issues on offense though with line play and quarterback. The line is better than last year but could use another 1A transfere or 2 and some young talented recruits stepping it up a bit to make more of an impact. Not too sure what to say about the QB position. I think that Brock Smith is a bit overrated who chokes in pressure situations. I know that he is only a sophomore but he should be coming into his own before now. I know that he has a gun for an arm but I don't think he would be the man to lead us to that next level. I hope that I am wrong but I think that we might be better off with a 1A transfere at this point. I certainly don't want to begin talking about our sorry kicking game right now.

Guys, don't get enamoroured with guys because they play at a 1A school. We have had 1A transfers at QB and some performed and some did not. That is not necessarily the answer. Brock is struggling right now a bit but he has the tools to do it. I still believe in him. I do like how Zach Terrell is playing though. Again we have enough to get it done this year. I gotta tell ya stevev I don't like calling college kids chokes. I don't know you but if you have never tried to play football or basketball with 10-20 k people watching or an entire community hanging on your every move on the court, then you have no idea, NO IDEA how it feels. It is not easy. The term choke (Sportscritic likes to use it) is something that happens to an athlete or team that under-performs in a heated situation, because of the heated situation. There are few actual choke jobs we have ever seen in sports and I don't think Brock or even Ben are choking. I just think the competition is tough and it is not easy to do what we wan them to do. I am still excited about this team and the future and will be driving back to Lynchburg to tailgate (maybe) and watch us kick some Big South Conference butt. Who's with me!?!

I haven't given up on this team yet. I still think that we can salvage an 8-3 or 7-4 type of season but no playoff possibilities this year. Considerering how poor our QB and kickers have done so far we are a few plays from being 5-1. That says something about our ability to compete. Not too worried about the Big South right now. I just want to see us beat Coastal at their place and Western Carolina. The rest of the games should be convincing wins. If we could do that then I could put the W & M debacle behind me for good.

Steve, I hate to tell you this, but even at 9-2, there were no playoff possibilities. None.

The only way Liberty was going to the playoffs was at 10-1 and the only loss coming to Wake Forest. And even THAT was iffy.

Coastal can get in at 9-2 because of wins against Furman, South Carolina State and Wofford ... even so, the Chants have to win out, which won't be easy (as VMI showed them Saturday).

I honestly was not expecting playoffs in Rocco's first year. Now a good record I was (that is why I said 9-2 wasn't out of the realm of possibility before the season). I think this team has made big strides just this year alone. I have a feeling that things could be pretty special once he is working with his own recruits exclusively

The whole "learning how to win" thing is why I've said 6-5 all along.

They could do better covering the run sometimes, and tackling has been an issue for years at LU. They have to learn to wrap those guys up.

Coach will get it done. The whole concept at UVA is all about "wrapping guys up."

Yeah, I heard that Kolegue and Beasley wanted to kick themselves after losing the game, but, they missed.

Arghh! Why does it take a month and a half for me to think of these jokes?
