Continuing the discussion we were having in the 2015 recruiting class thread
regarding scars observations on this year's team. Good to hear that Maxwell looks like he's more than just a big body. If he bring some athleticism to the table at that size he may be able to help us right away.

ive heard from a good source that Evan Maxwell could end up being a huge piece for Liberty. not sure how long you guys have been around but he has been compared to a Jason Sarchet type player and heard he could have a pretty significant impact by his sophomore year and maybe even earlier...he is exceeding expectations at a rapid pace..refreshing to hear some good news.

It sure is! I would love it if we can get 8 minutes or so a game of hustle, rebounding and defense from him this year backing up Johnson, so Drew doesn't have to play the 5. Next year we will need him to do a lot more. We are recruiting bigs hard, and with Smith, Gielo and Johnson all Seniors we really need to sign at least one, no matter how good Maxwell turns out to be.

I don't have the intel of bballfan84, but I also have heard that Evan has been turning some heads. The Sarchet reference is intriguing. If we can get that type of output from Maxwell than we'd have to be pleased.

Per Lang's twitter, Theo Johnson, our 6'7" SF transfer from College of Charleston, has been granted a waiver by the NCAA and will be eligible to play this year.

We have to be better than the last 2 years dont we? How are we with shooters. Seems to me we might not have quite as much shooting but were def more athletic. What do we expect from moeller since dl said he would be the starter at sg if season started today. I dont think we have many dead spots on the roster.

I'll have a notebook in tomorrow's paper describing some of that. Will go live on the website at 8 if you're interested.

Anyone know what his waiver was based on? Just curious as Winthrop is still waiting on the status of a transfer waiver for Zach Price. I can't seem to figure out what does and does not get a waiver anymore.

Never mind, I think I found my answer on the CofCfans forum (http://www.cofcfans.com/boards/viewtopi ... 48&p=48974) . Looks like CofC wasn't going to renew his scholarship, so he falls under the 'run-off' waiver provision, allowing him to avoid sitting out a year...

lotta injuries on this team already
The only injury Lang mentioned that troubles me is Talbert's back. Ankles heal and a couple of concussions just tells me the guys are really going at it in practice, but we know from experience how a bad back can mess with a kid Ezra's height. Witness JVP and going back to the 90s Jeremy Day, who had to give up the game after a promising Freshman year. Jeremy has done pretty well for himself after basketball though. Married into a family from Arkansas that has made a few dollars in the retail business.

Chris that is great work as always. Moeller does look like a pretty solid addition to the back court. Theo Johnson told me a few weeks ago that he is eligible. He will help them. Maxwell IS a pleasant surprise. I am sad I won't be able to spend a lot of time with this group this season but I will be following along as best I can. This could be a solid year based on what I have seen so far.

I'm starting to get cautiously optimistic we'll be decent. Not world changers by any means, but decent.

Agreed. At this juncture this doesn't appear to be a 20 loss team...will see when the ball goes up next month

Well the talent seems to fit better on paper and the positions dont seem to be as redundant. We just had a lot of the same players last year were the same size skill set etc

I'm with you SJ. My concern would be in the backcourt but I think Moller will play big minutes and "Extraordinary Joe" will be ready to run the show.

I believe we will get some production from Ryan Kemrite at the 2 (when Moeller gives Retic a break at the 1) or 3 if we go small (for Gielo).

I think that 2/3 position is a pretty competitive race among a few players including Theo Johnson and AC Reid. Gielo will get a ton of minutes at the 3. Ryan Kemrite and Ethan Layer will also compete for playing time.

Liberty is playing one of the worst schedules I've ever seen a low major play. If the Flames lose 20 games, they'll be a horrible, horrible team.
