It's going to be very nice and much deserved for our Fine Arts Department...if I remember correctly it's going to be well over double the size they have now

No Proto, it's not a movie theater

in convo today Jerry Jr. announced that at the board meeting they discussed how the LU theatre department desperately needed a new theatre, but those cost 10 to 15 million dollars. then Jerry said that someone had the brilliant idea to build a 700 seat theatre in the tower at Campus North, which could be done for 10 to 15% of the cost of building one from scratch. they showed a picture of what it would look like on the screens and it looked way cool, but i have no idea where to find it. it'll show up somewhere soon for sure.

They have pretty cool software which allows you to see what the view will be from every seat, I've seen a few of the print outs and it's really cool because you know exactly what your going to get and no surprises with views, obstructions etc

just went to the website hoping to they had posted a picture or two...but no such luck

I am sure they will soon

That sounds like a great use for the space...the IMAX idea they had a few years ago served no real purpose...a nice fine arts facility is great for the school

thats not its primary purpose... I don't see any reason why it couldn't double though.

I just saw where the speaker for the baccalaureate service has been announced, its Rev. Jerry Thorpe. From my research i see he is from Texas so maybe Sly has some info on him and i saw that he is on the board for LU. He is a lesser known name, at least to me, but I look forward to see what he has for me and my fellow graduates. Now if only they would announce the main speaker.......

The whole Bono thing is a joke right? I have the feeling the administration is smarter than that...

Jerry Thorpe is good. I've been to a men's conference where he was the keynote speaker. He was a pastor for many years and now is a conference speaker full time. He is very good.

i am sure it is a joke...but what do you mean by that statement? I mean sure, Bono is more liberal then the school...but he is a Christian and most of the world know this about him...I, personally, would love it

He was VERY political this last election and not to mention he called out Doc by name in a song saying he's stealing from old people...so while I'm a U2 fan, I think we can find a better fit...

Ahhhh...one of my favorite pieces of trivia, there, JDub. Most people don't even realize it ISN'T a recognized word.

Ah.

I don't want to look like I'm slamming Falwell -- Falwell wasn't a crook and didn't steal money from old people or poor people, but in turn, did more for old people and poor people than most will do in a thousand lifetimes...

Let me just say that Bono made those statements in the heyday of the Christian Televangelist Scandals (Jim Bakker was a crook and did steal money from people), and Falwell just happened to be the most visible televangelist of the time. Sure, Falwell wanted to clean up the scandal-ridden PTL when he became the head of it, but the celebrities and the media just see:

jim bakker is a televangelist
jim bakker is a crook
jerry falwell is a televangelist
therefore, jerry falwell must be a crook.

It's poor reasoning, it's bad research, but we shouldn't expect more from famous people.

Sorry to hijack the thread. And it doesn't matter anyway, because 'Bono as graduation speaker' is a joke... right?
