Does our love for our alma mater's athletic programs increase after we graduate?

Here is a great article from a UVa alum, which speaks entirely about this. He says that his passion has grown immensely.

In my one year as being an alum, I am more in love with LU, and in particular, their athletics, than I was as a student.

Ten years. As the days since graduation have stretched into months and then years and then an entire decade, the memories of the past slowly fade into a dull historic landscape. But I do remember one thing. I remember not caring about Virginia athletics half as much as I care about it now. Heck, I almost missed the 1995 FSU win because I wanted to sleep after an egregious all-nighter.

This fact struck me recently, as I enjoyed the company of some old friends at my 10-year college reunion: I'm not a casual fan anymore, I'm in it for life.

I certainly feel stronger about the athletic program now than I did when I was in school. Beyond football & mens hoops, my only interest in athletics when I was on campus generally centered on certain female athletes.

But let's be honest, when you are immersed in it on campus it is easy to become jaded. But distance certainly makes the heart grow fonder.

You don't even have to leave for this to affect you. Believe me. I'm only six years out of school and I've been with LU since I graduated, but my pride and dedication as an alum has certainly increased with every passing year. I only wish some of the rest of my class could have stuck around to see where the school is now.

One big difference, for me, was that once I graduated, I could afford to go to AWAY games. One of the highlights of my life was taking my brother to a bowl game in Mobile, AL to watch Marshall beat ECU several years ago, when Byron Leftwich was their QB. And I saw Randy Moss play for them in a playoff game before he went on to the Vikings.

And I'm really looking forward to making the trip to Williamsburg to watch LU play W&M.

wow cider, i remember that ECU/Marshall game! what a shootout!! yes i have seen my love for LU sports increase since i have graduated though i attended all football/basketball games in my four years and made plenty of roadies during the process. it is cool to now be a part of exciting times in LU athletics!
