i spoke with one of my former professors, dr. farver at TRBC yesterday and she gave me an update on laurie:

1. both greg and laurie are at peace with her dying
2. laurie's strength and energy have diminished in the past week, and her pain medication has been upped, but she remains cognizant
3. she is sleeping most of the time, but when she is awake, is visiting with her family.
4. she did get to see her son jordan and his girlfriend dressed up for their prom
5. her brother did come down for a visit over the weekend

greg has said to tell folks to "pray as God leads them to pray"

According to a faculty member who was a very dear friend of hers, Laurie McCauley passed away this morning (the quote below is from an email that I just received).
Laurie McCauley, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ early this morning. Greg, her husband of 23 years, was with Laurie as God very peacefully called her home to heaven to be with Him...Diuguid's Funeral Service (811 Wigginton Road in Lynchburg, 434-385-8900) will be handling the arrangements. There will be a memorial service at Rivermont Presbyterian Church next Tuesday evening.

Jim, thanks for the news. I got a call earlier today about this. I am extremely sad right now as I really think Laurie was one of the nicest most genuine person in the world. It is really sad that this has happened. I am glad she is finally out of pain and suffering though. I will be in Texas til Wed so I will miss the memorial. Jim do you have any other info as to when the actual funeral service will be or is there just going to be an memorial service?

Her obituary (with picture) appears in Sunday's Lynchburg paper:

http://www.legacy.com/NewsAdvance/Death ... d=88358141
After a brief career in the entertainment field Laurie made the decision to enroll at Liberty Baptist College (now Liberty University). While attending Liberty she met the love of her life, her future husband, Gregory McCauley. They were married by the Reverend Jerry Falwell. The greatest love the two of them have shared, besides their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, is rearing their five children, Lauren McCauley Barnes, Scott, Jordan, Francis, and Isabelle McCauley...The "consummate nurturer," Laurie passionately cared for her friends, her neighbors, her dogs, and her pond. But first, her family...A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2424 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg.

5 children......................... what a legacy to leave, and what a challenge Greg is facing right now as he must carry on raising them without her. Our prayers are with you Greg.

From Dr. Farver, who was a close friend to Laurie.
Now that I have had a couple days to reflect on the loss of my dear friend, Laurie Lee McCauley, I would like to share some thoughts in this final message. First of all, I cannot thank you enough for all the heartfelt prayers that you have offered to the throne of God on behalf of the McCauley family and myself. We are all truly grateful for the body of Christ coming together to faithfully pray for this dear Christian - that some of you didn't even know personally. As we now realize, God chose to answer our prayers by taking Laurie home and healing her on the other side of heaven rather than on this side. However, His response does not leave us who remain without hope. It just confirms that God is in control every step of the way because He has the BIG picture of our lives in view and we do not. It also reinforces the following thoughts contained on a card a dear friend recently gave me.

No OCEAN can hold it back. No river can overtake it.
No whirlwind can go FASTER. No army can defeat it. No law can stop it.
No DISTANCE can slow it. No disease can cripple it.
No force on EARTH is more powerful or effective than the power of PRAYER.

Other thoughts of Laurie have focused on where I was on Friday when the news of her passing was shared beyond the immediate family that morning. As I was picking strawberries at Seaman's Orchard in Nelson county, I paused several times to enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding that farm - something Laurie and I did often when there together. You see our trip to this berry patch was as much therapeutic as it was agrarian. In looking over the quiet meadow, farm crops, and fruit trees with the hazy blue ridge mountains off in the distance, I sensed that Laurie's spirit was present with me. Given the time of her physical death, indeed her spirit was all that was left for me to discern.

During the last few days of her life on earth, I perceived that Laurie's soul, the very essence of her being, was trapped inside her nearly lifeless body. Last Friday, God released her from that entrapment to come be with Him and abide in heaven forever. What a glorious moment when Laurie was truly freed from the earthly snares of sin and death. In a sense, I am envious of the marvelous freedom Laurie now enjoys. However, my selfish being wants her back so we can continue our friendship here. And so I struggle in my grief - at times rejoicing and then crying. However, I am comforted in knowing that, in the expanse of all eternity, I will rejoin my dear friend, Laurie Lee, and rekindle our friendship as we worship our holy God forever.

I close these personal thoughts with something I found posted on the refrigerator at the McCauley's home last Friday evening. I believe these words written by Bill Hybels are appropriate for all those with heavy hearts at this time.

Life on earth is relatively brief when set against the backdrop of eternity.
But despite its brevity, life is a scandalously gracious gift from the hand of a good God,
a gift that should be sincerely celebrated each day by those of us whose hourglasses still contain sand.

And - even though Laurie's hourglass is now empty, she sprinkled the sand of her life on family, friends, and acquaintances who will cherish those precious grains for a lifetime.

Jim,
I was there last night, and it went quite well. The traffic on Rivermont was crazy. I got there at 10 till and parked four blocks away! The church was full, and the overflow room (video area) was full and spilled into the lobby and hallways. It was a powerful service centered around celebrating Laurie's life and her close relationship to Jesus. Anyone there who didn't know the gospel does now for sure. Lauren read a poem that was her mom's favorite. Scott, and Jordan both spoke. Then all 5 of the kids sang "give thanks". They did a great job. It was touching to see how strong these kids are. Greg and Laurie have done a great job. The amazing part was that Greg did his own wife's homily or message. He did well, and was strong, emotional but strong. I had to leave a few minutes early, so I missed the end of his message. Many of her friends and her brother spoke as well. 1 thing of interest was that her Dr. spoke as well. He said that Dr. Falwell and some other pastors came over and knelt and prayed for her and anointed her head with oil a few weeks ago. Anyway it was a fitting tribute to a life well lived. She sure shared of herself and made a ton of friends.
God bless the McCauley Family!

Nice article in today's Lynchburg paper about the life (& death) of Laurie McCauley:
Though Laurie Bartram McCauley danced professionally before she got married in 1984, the first time her husband watched her dance was in February.

McCauley started taking classes again with her daughter at the Dance Theater of Lynchburg more than a year ago and was soon asked by the director to teach beginning ballet and tap, her husband Greg said.

She was forced to stop dancing and teaching in March because of advanced-stage pancreatic cancer. She died May 25 at home surrounded by her family.

“She said it blessed her on 10 different levels to have danced the year before she got sick,” said her friend, Susan Burch.

Though most knew McCauley’s name from her role as Brenda in the first “Friday the 13th” film, her husband and close friends said her most treasured claim to fame was her faith and five children.

Welcome to flamefans Francis. Hope you stick around and enjoy some of the more irreverent fellowship we have on a daily basis. This thread is atypically classy, as befitting the subject matter.

I still am saddened about laurie's death. I watched her in the movie: "Friday the 13th" when I was a teenager, and now being a grown up, I really thought she was a talented actress in that movie and really contributed to the overall success of that film. I know she really didn't like her performance as she showed a little "skin" in the film, and that is very understandable. She went on to follow her heart and fell in love and had a beautiful family that she nurtured at home from what I have read. She basically gave up a world of Hollywood to pursue what is most important in life and that is God and Family. I lost touch after many years and did not really know what ever happened to Laurie until I read about it later, but it appears to me she made the most of what is really important in life and she pursued her dancing. I'm sure Laurie is guarding her children from above and she is awaiting the time to be with them someday. God Bless Laurie and her family. ---DEAN

Our family went to school with both your parents though we did not know them extremely well. We also went to school with Albert and Lori Carter. We just saw you and your sister Isabelle in the lead roles in HS Musical 2 and were blown away. It was like seeing your mom up on stage again. May you continue to carry on her spirit and her legacy through your continued acting. God's blessings be upon you.
